msn info?? - 01-25-2009, 06:45 AM

my contact info on msn says:

アクセスしていただき。

I didn't put this there - nor do I know how it got there since I haven't edited my info since I signed up for MSN messenger.

Can anyone tell me what it means please?

Thanks!

The first part tells you that you got access to it, but I don't know the last 2 characters...and those might change everything sorry.

アクセスしていただき。

More or less, it means "You're receiving access."

The first part, アクセス, is the katakana (alphabet used for foreign loan words) transliteration of "access".

いただき is a verb meaning "to receive"; you also might hear a Japanese person say いただきます before eating. The verb in its original form uses the ku/く ending, i.e. いただく. It has a number of meanings, such as "to receive", "to accept", and "to take/have". The verb itself is a very polite one.

The last part (the tricky part), the して, simply means "doing", like something that is being done. In its original form, して is written like する. It is usually (but not always) a suffix. In this case, it is acting as a suffix to アクセス, so the literal translation of アクセスして is "doing access". But because いただき follows right after, して is also acting as an auxiliary verb. If you recall, I said above that いただき means "to receive". The presence of して means that receiving is being done.

So, in conclusion, all in all, アクセスしていただき means "the receiving of access is doing", or more smoothly modified for English-speaking ears, "You're receiving access."

Yes, Japanese is one hell of a language.

くそ。。。

An additional note: If you installed Japanese IME text support on your computer, that could be one cause of the sudden appearance of Japanese script in your MSN client.

Hope this helped.

Also, in addition to that, someone could have hacked your account and referred to the fact that THEY actually got the access.

My bad, I was completely wrong...I was being stubborn and seeing it as する+past te form (していた).
Now it makes much more sense

Glad it was helpful, ARose. I realized only after the fact I may have been a little over-technical with my explanation. D:
