I should point out their "study time" estimates generally mean classroom time (or, at least, directed study with a teacher), not self-learning.

I can't switch to level 4 now so it's either pass or fail. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Dude, you should've just started learning earlier

Oh I realised that; I've done about 540 hours taught over three years and about 100 hours self taught. Unfortunately my university wasn't that great.

I hope people are taking anything other than JLPT1 for personal reasons.

Hee hee you never know. I remember when I studied hard to get my "first certificate", the Oxford certificate for foreigner English students. I thought with that paper in my hands I could find a job easy in my home country (Italy). But after a couple of years I moved to the USA and that piece of paper here is worth like paper towel lol.

No more tests for me I learn only for personal knowledge.

I believe there are universities out there that require students to take the JLPT at some point, and usually it`s only 3 that is a requirement for the class.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

That's typically to enroll in their substantive classes taught in Japanese, and typically I believe you have to pass JLPT1, 1.5, or 2. JLPT3 does not mean you're ready to sit in a regular class. You will have no idea what's going on.

Not dumb, they expect you to study 600 hours consecutively with the material that would normally be provided.

Se la vie....

That isn`t what I meant. I meant in a foreign university, taking a Japanese class (usually Japanese minor). The university my cousin goes to in the US requires students to take and pass the JLPT 3 at some point if they are studying Japanese. I also seem to recall some short term exchange programs having the participants take the JLPT 3 at the end.

JLPT 1.5? Is this something new?

Japanese universities require JLPT 1 for enrollment if they don`t have an international program (which will sometimes accept 2 if you`re going to be studying Japanese there) or handle the foreign student Japanese exam thing. (Forget the name.) JLPT 3 would mean nothing inside Japan.
