What does 後ろ mean? - 08-09-2010, 05:22 PM

Hello!

I wonder; what does 後ろ (うしろ) mean? According to jisho.org, it means "back; behind; rear", but I don't know what the site means. Does it mean "butt", or does it mean "behind" as in "I'm behind the car"?

Thank you for your help.

It doesn't mean "butt".

If you look at the results in Jisho.org, you can mouseover "external links." Then click "Eijirou (ALC)." You will get a long list of sample sentences, and you can get a better picture of the usage of 後ろ than anyone can possibly tell you in a few words here.

Here is an excerpt:
Quote:
後ろ
backward
rear
reverse

後ろ、大丈夫?

後ろから
【副】

後ろからの攻撃
attack from behind
後ろからの視点
looking-from-behind view-point
後ろからやって来る
come from behind

Ushiro(u shi ro) - back, rear, behind; as in ushirogeri -reverse kick. (I think!), and in Aikido-opposite or reverse stance.

Wooh, I just learnt that today!
せんせい actually gave us a little dance and song, helped me remember it!
Hehe, I love my Japanese teacher, she is so nice :3

~~~~~
From what she told me it means behind, like:
テレビ の 後ろ に つくえ が あります.
(The desk is behind the TV, if I done that right =.=, my Japanese fails.)
