what does this kanji mean? - 11-19-2010, 09:11 PM

Hi, I recently started trying to learn Japanese and its going pretty well so far. I worked on translating a few small things from a manga and ran across this Kanji and cant find it anywhere. Does anyone know what it means or at least could you point out what radical is used? Cuz I'm stumped

I think it's 起きる, to get up. The top of the 己 has merged with the 走 radical by the looks of it. It has a few combinations, so it may mean something else depending on what follows it.

Thank you! that is what it was

here is another character I'm having trouble with, I'm not even sure if this one is kanji or not It looks basic enough I'm surprised I'm having so much trouble figuring out what it is...

Looks like a 「ぞ」 hiragana. Might be useful if you post the whole image instead of just a cropped-out part of it. (just so to determine the context.

It's ぞ i think, in hand-writing-ish script.
