So, who's taking it this year? What are you shooting for?

I'm going for level 3 next year, unless I really want to grind and get 2.

I'm going for Level 2. I've lived in Japan for a year, so I'm confident (but still nervous). Wish me luck!

When you mention it I have a question:-) I don't have any levels passed and can I go for level 3 without doing level 4 first?

and slowly...you come to realize...it's all as it should be...you can only do so much. if you're game enought...you could place your trust in me...

I'm just gunna study hard until I feel the need to test myself. The real test is using what you learn in Japan with real people, in real situations.

Well, the JLPT is actually very often by employers in Japan to gauge a foreigner's Japanese language skills. There are many practical reasons for taking the JLPT rather than to just test yourself.
