strange kanji
 

Hi all!
Please, what this kanji: 々 stands for? i can't translate it.
I found it in the sentence: この世界の仲間達と過ごした人々に
Please don't tell me the translation of the whole sentence (I have to manage to translate it by myself)

This means the kanji before is being repeated, so this: '人々' is read 'hitobito'.

’々’ is used to avoid writing the same kanji twice in a row.

We write 人々 and not 人人. It's read as ひとびと.

Other examples:

木々 = trees. Read as　きぎ

花々 = flowers. Read as　はなばな

and what does hitobito mean? It's a sort of plural? It shouldn't be then Hito tachi?

人たち and ひとびと　both mean men, people, everybody..

so there is no difference? If hey are the same, which would a japanese native use the most?
