Best Japanese Survival Horror Franchise... - 02-19-2009, 03:55 AM

Well, this is kinda my first posting here, but I figured it'd be fun to try and start off with a poll. Hopefully it'll start a debate about good horror games coming out of Japan...

Which is your favorite?

1.) (Biohazard) Resident Evil

2.) Silent Hill

3.) Fatal Frame

4.) Siren

5.) Clock Tower

I have been playing Resident Evil 5 and it is sick!! It is so awsome!! The only thing that has ever bugged me bout Resident Evil is that you cant walk around when you aim or shoot. I honestly perfer FEAR and FEAR 2 over Resident Evil. The grafics tho on RE5 are sick, I luv it! And my bf broke up with me recently so being able to go around shooting a bunch of people makes me feel a lot better.

Fatal Frame.

Basically, I'll tell you why.

1) Resident Evil: It's an obvious gore fest, and just not suited to what I like.

2) Silent Hill: Good storyline, but I just couldn't get over how annoying the controls are!

3) Project Zero [Fatal Frame in America]: Deep storyline that ties together extremely well throughout the game. Amazing psychological horror and events, that plays on your feelings of empathy towards the characters, and their vulnerability. It's subtle yet immense.

4) Siren: From what I've played it's pretty good, I just haven't played it enough to compare it with the others.

5) Clock Tower: Never played it.

Obvious? Resident Evil was the first of its kind if I recall well, the virus storyline and such... and many have adopted this style. I don't think Resident Evil was obvious when it came out. And it has a nice storyline.

Doesn't matter if it's the first of it's kind if it's predictable... the kind of suspense that it's trying to draw isn't all that shocking, and you tend to know what's around the corner. Especially compared with the suspense Project Zero manages to draw, it's totally unexpected and unpredictable, and that's a big factor for me.
