well you can actually save if you cook your own food, but if you are here only for a short visit, I don't think hotel would allow it unless there is a hotel that allow you to cook your own meal, oh maybe some hostel do..

cup ramen ranges mostly from 100yen - up

but if you really want to eat really good ramen, its usually starts from 700 yen..

and you can use xe.com to convert it to your own currency..

Sakura Youth Hostel in Asakusa has a small kitchen for everyone to use-- but you have to take your turn!

I visited the xe.com site, and decided to input if I had 20.00 to spend one day while I'm visiting Japan, and say, I'm staying with a friend (not living in Tokyo), how much yen would that give me?

Here's what the site said:

United States Dollars Japan Yen
1 USD = 91.8807 JPY 1 JPY = 0.0108837 USD

20.00 USD = 1,837.61 JPY

So to you guys who are also from America, is this good, or bad, or...?

It depends... if you are a tourist in Japan and converting dollars to yen, you aren't getting as many yen right now... average is about 100 yen = $1, so this is a bit under that (91). However, if you are working in Japan and being paid in yen, you'll have more US $ when you convert over since it only takes 91 yen instead of 100 to buy $1, so that's a good thing.

Why fly all the way to Japan to eat cup ramen? You are on vacation. Plan to spend an average of about 3000 yen per day on food.
