こわいよ~I would not want to be a maid or near a maid cafe with drooling men (and women)...even for the experience. Perhaps, I would like to talk to the maids and ask their perspective, because I've been a waitress in the states, but other than that...no.

But Akihabara has other stuff, right? Any big arcades there? I love hitting the semi-understandable video games! And all the books! *goes to do some research*

Keep in mind, a maid cafe is not a strip club. No one touches the maids, and the customers are not hooting and hollering. It's a quiet cafe (except when someone orders an item that brings them a lot of attention).

And maid cafes are only a tiny percentage of the businesses in Akihabara.

そう。。。Well, then, that's good, it's like a high-class coffee cafe experience then. That's more reassuring, but so expensive! I hope I get a friend who works in a maid cafe, so she can slip me free coffee... Like you said, a poor hostel backpacker like me can't waste money on something frivolous like maid-handled coffee--walking, taking pictures, and window-shopping are my favorite free activities. ^_^

I'd add another free activity to that. It kind of falls into the category of walking, but looking for an amazing view that you love, e.g. some part of Tokyo at dusk. Then just take a minute or two to take it in, and remember for the rest of your days. It kind of gives you something at the end. Although, window-shopping is good aswell. lol

I found akihabara very interesting. Whether you want electronics of not, it's all about the experience. There are so many things you can buy but all stores are pretty much the same, apart from the odd lil shop. It is full of porn though so you'll be a lil shocked when you walk into a DVD store and find yourself on the porn level lol.

Go for it and enjoy the culture shock!!!
