Studying abroad in Beppu, Japan

Hi I'm a 3rd year college student looking to study abroad during the 2011-2012 school term in Beppu, Japan. Since I will be living there for about a year, I would like some advice and some tips on living in Japan. Also, it would be great if there are people who have been to Beppu or live there help me with adjusting to life there. Thanks!
