Going to be in japan in august and have questions - 05-07-2007, 11:34 PM

I will be in Yokosuka in august for the next 2 years in the navy. I know about the base being considered America, but what if i lived off the base would that count toward the time for PR. Also if anyone has any tips that you can send me on what to look for in a apartment in japan that would help a lot. And thank you Nyororin for helping me with some of my question before.

Thank you

The Navy will only allow you to live off post if there is no on base housing available.

Also, you are not allowed to wear your uniform off post. If you live off post, you have to change into your civilian dress before going home. The SPs WILL stop you at the gate if you are wearing your uniform.

The welcome center will help you with any housing issues, whether it is on post or off post. My experience has been that off post housing sucks because decent apartments are not available to you. Those landlords will not rent to Sailors/Soldiers/etc....etc... The ones that do rent, suck the big one.
