You're right.

Just seems odd to me that a Japanese native would come on a Japanese forum and ask for friends, then misspell his own language.

Don't know if you know this or not but typos aren't really common with Japanese.

Nah, it's written both ways by native speakers. Technically は is correct, but so many people in my generation write わ that I haven't decided which to use yet. I'll probably stick with the correct one, cuz if other foreigners are calling me out, you KNOW something's wrong XD
