Sorry there's a difference. Being able to play one string instrument well will no doubt make it easier to play others but it in no sense means you can actually "play" it. You can know how to read the music and know what notes t hit however you're still adapting your fingers to an entirely different architecture. You get to skip a few steps but it doesn't make you good at it just by knowing one.

Plus from what you listed how is a drum, flute, or xylophone string instruments?

My Girlfriend is the same way. She can play an array of instruments extremely well and even composes music. It's not just playing one because she can play another though. She's even made entire songs with 4+ different instruments in them all by her playing it and syncing it up properly. Hell her first set of drums was just a makeshift set of cans put together.

Who here plays an instrument? - 04-09-2008, 03:13 PM

Just curious about who here has an active interest in music? What music instrument do you play? What kind of music do you play? Rock, blues, folk music, electronic? Is it a hobby thing, or is it serious?

I'm currently playing the guitar. I'm an aspiring lead guitarist, and a guitarist in our band (which at the moment lacks a guitarist and a bass player). I like to play most kinds of music on the guitar.

I play the piano, it's mostly a hobby. I can't read music at all. I try to match the song to the key. I have an electric piano which plays the song for me I listen for a bit and then try to match it. It's a grueling process but I've never forgotten a song since the sixth grade LOL.

btw nice sig of the roaring 1920s, lol made me laugh.

When I'm not playing in my band, I do guitar arrangements for video game music. Once I get one of those Yamaha Keyboards and the necessary hardware and software to record music I play, I'm going to make some of my own music. Maybe release some kind of online solo album or something.
