They WOULD exist. SM owns rights to a lot of songs (just like YG Entertainment does). This one just happened to be one of them. Remember that SuJu were created long before they covered the song. They went through many years of intense training etc. This song would just have been replaced with another song, if it didn't make the cut.
I don't really think that Shindong was ever able to look 'gorgeous', but he looks emotional.
