lol I say that 20 times every day, too! It means "No, I don't do ~~", "I didn't mean to ~~", etc. It's a gentle and indirect way of denying something without uttering any negative word. In other words, it's the Japanese way.

まあね means "Yes" here. Again, it's an indirect way of affirming something.
Unlike what they appear to teach outside of Japan, we Japanese don't often use はい or いいえ in our daily conversations, especially いいえ. In fact, the first time I ever said the word いいえ out loud was when we learned to translate the English word "no" in the seventh grade.
What this means is that if you are always using はい and いいえ, you are NOT speaking very natural Japanese.
