Any Otaku's here?

Konnichiwa!

I just wanted to post this new thread to find out if there are any otaku's here at JF.:)

There are probably many people around the world who really love anime/manga/video games [or other otaku related stuff].
As for myself, i really love watching anime, read manga/doujinshi and play video games.
But just loving this all doesn't make you an Otaku really. It's just something that happens without notice anything.
Basically the term otaku means: ''people with obsessive interests, particularly anime and manga.''

Well, for example: I do watch anime for many hours a day [10-15 hours].
So i guess that's quite obsessive to me, but i am taking it very seriously.
You could say it has become a part of my usual lifestyle.

Sorry, i just got off topic here.
I just want to know if there are any otaku's here on the JF forum.:)

If you want to rate your Otaku-ness first hand just click on the link below:
The Anime Otaku-ness Test

It's a test to rate your Otaku-ness. **Do you have what it takes to be one?:D**

My ratings: 81,0% Otaku-ness
6% Weird-ness level [hm, i do not fully understand this one]

Well, gambatte! :)

MissMisa 04-28-2008 09:05 AM

I suppose that I am a nerdy video game Otaku. :D

emiluvsjmusic 04-28-2008 10:08 AM

Crani 04-28-2008 05:08 PM

I don't consider me self an "Otaku" since I don't make anime and manga my main focus in life, I just like japanese culture very much.

AmbeRz 04-28-2008 05:10 PM

Isnt "otaku" meant to be a negative term? lol...

Crani 04-28-2008 05:14 PM

Otaku is just a stereotype, just like nerd, Emo's, etc... It isn't a bad thing, but it is usually used with bad intention.

Slykaz1 04-28-2008 05:27 PM

Your otaku Purity Test Results :
You answered "yes" to 76 of 200 questions, making you 62.0% otaku pure (38.0% otaku corrupt).
Your Weirdness Factor (AKA Uniqueness Factor) is 19%

Drend 04-28-2008 05:56 PM

I'd consider myself an otaku. I watch hours of anime at a time, I import figurines and a few character CDs, I cosplay, I go to anime conventions, and I spend lots of money on figures XD Figurines have to be my favorite part about being an otaku though, they're fun to collect and look at.

Kenta21 04-28-2008 10:22 PM

You answered "yes" to 67 of 200 questions, making you 66.5% otaku pure (33.5% otaku corrupt).
Your Weirdness Factor (AKA Uniqueness Factor) is 13%,

emiluvsjmusic 04-29-2008 11:33 AM

otaku isnt really a negative term... it just means someone who's obsessed with something, whats wrong with that?

There isn't anything wrong with having an obsession for anime/manga.

I think it's just something you really, really, really like/love.

Please keep in mind that the word "otaku" has two very different meanings in western and japanese cultures.

In the so-called western countries, an otaku is just a person who loves manga, videogames and anime.

In Japan, an otaku is a person with heavy psychlogical problems, a maniac, totally obsessed with his passion. He/she can't relate to anybody, except with a few other otakus, and thus can't have a normal life.

So, be very careful when you label yourself as an "otaku" in Japan. You will be *always* watched with suspect, and some people would instantly leave you and run away. Obvioulsy, not everybody hates otakus, but the majority of japanese citizens are scared by them. Being called an "otaku" in Japan isn't a good thing at all!

AmbeRz 05-02-2008 10:43 AM

Lol, the Japanese people who visit this forum might be a little bit scared by the self-confessed otaku's in this thread then. :D

Anime and Manga are cool, but its weird how people can become obsessed with it..

Ito 05-02-2008 10:53 AM

Well i think it isnt bad to like something mutch. but i do love anime and manga alot and i do fan arts. but i dont stop going to school and study becouse of that i love anime and manga.
its ok i think to do something alot aslong as u can also have controll on your studies and so on.
Becouse im calling myself an otaku is that i mostly do anime/manga related things doesnt meen i dont have any life controll.
I think myself is sad when people get obsessed with work but they arent treaded like wierd people.

Yes, i think you are really right.
It isn't bad to like something. I really like/love anime/manga/video games,
and i also make AMV's, so basically i consider myself an otaku. It's a part of me, but i think what Ito said was right really.
If you're calling yourself an otaku, it doesn't mean that you don't have any form of life control.
I also have a administration job, that's important too. So i can separate
things in my daily life very well. Many things in life are important, so i can't just let one thing getting the upper hand really.

I think you cannot choose to be an otaku. It just happens.^^

i think thats what wrong with that. technically there is nothing wrong being obsessed with something but most of the times it have lots of bad effect.
Obsessed with someone= stalking etc...
Obsessed with some merchandise or collectible might cause financial problems
Obsessed with anime/manga/ero-games/etc.. might cause some health problems,

by definition obsessed means: having or showing excessive or compulsive concern with something.

It's weird to be obsessed with most things, really. Obsessed is like a word for someone really manically into to something, so I suppose that's what Japanese think of the word Otaku?

I think though that Japanese people would recognise the way westerners use the term and not really think about it too much then.

ivi0nk3y 05-02-2008 10:54 PM

I personally am an Otaku of a great many Anime/Manga and Musical forms out there. I get totally obsessed with whatever thing I may be watching/reading/listening to. I'm told its cos i'm a passionate person, which is mostly true.
I don't however start building shrines and things.. prolly cos I know my limits
I dunno why though. I remember the first thing I was obsessed with was Sonic The Hedgehog :D I wanted to meet the creators of him and give them ideas and i'd write letters and get replies from Japan and stuff.. I even figured out how to record the Game Music from the games and remix it with songs and stuff.. all before I had a PC.
Ah.. the good old days

chaseme 05-02-2008 11:01 PM

For non japanese speakers otaku is just people who enjoy Anime/manga than other tv shows/Novels.
i think japanese view otaku as people whod rather date a some anime/manga character than a real woman. or someone who would put his obsession over his basic needs. Like the character in genshiken the glasses wearing. I think he is the very essence of japanese otaku.
For non japanese it would be like the other character of genshiken.

anyway i dont think there is any otaku(of japanese standard) the fact that we choose to be in a japanese forum instead of a pure anime/manga community proves that we have a life outside of anime/manga.

Shiningmonkey 05-03-2008 06:08 PM

LMAO I did that~! With the game music! Me and my friend put it on a tape, and played it in the car. [Looking back now, it's kinda sad but it's okay since we were like, 8 >.<]

Cyclamen 05-03-2008 08:16 PM

Old Game Music rocks!!
The good old tunes in late 80s' and early 90s' games are still now little masterpieces - and not because of the "nostalgia factor", but just because they are *really* good.

reihiino 05-03-2008 08:48 PM
