How long was NewType around anyways, I only started reading it a year ago but PIQ seemed okay with me kind of sucked they went western though but the movie reviews were pretty cool. They should have done more reviews on asian movies than western ones.

5 years. It was based off of a Japanese magazine that is still going (Newtype).

That is sad news. Maybe it's partially related to the economy in the U.S. where some advertisers might be reluctant to spend money trying out a new magazine at this time.

Licensing fees aren't very high when you are trying to advertise someone else's anime and manga.

Newtype USA was owned by ADV and anime publisher. ADV has been struggling, and Newtype USA probably cost more than it made.
