The Otaku Encyclopedia

Description: Are you an otaku? Do you have otaku friends you can’t relate to? Then let The Otaku Encyclopedia expand your knowledge of the fascinating subculture of Cool Japan. This definitive guide introduces the world of Japan’s anime nerds, game geeks, and pop-idol fanboys, with over 600 terms that any fan of Japanese pop culture simply must know. Moe, doujinshi, cosplay, and most importantly otaku itself, are clearly explained in a fun yet informative way by a self-confessed otaku who has spent years researching the otaku heartland.

Scattered among the encyclopedic entries are interviews with key otaku like artist Takashi Murakami, otaku expert Okada Toshio, J-pop idol Shoko Nakagawa, and many others entrenched in the world of maid cafes, street-idols, and figure collecting. An essential A-to-Z of otaku culture not to be missed.

Since when Otakus are the fascinating subculture of Cool Japan?

The Guiness World Record Gamers Edition, now that's something interesting.

bhl88 08-04-2009 10:23 PM

You'd be convinced the whole world has gone mad if you heard that the Japanese PM is planning a "manga museum" (with support from the Australian 'oztaku' fanboys).

The news of an encyclopedia is nothing.

Notify me when he'll be planning an "Otaku museum".

bhl88 08-04-2009 10:35 PM

I doubt it... I'm sure they are planning: "Anime/Japanese Animation museum and manga museum..." but I haven't seen "game museum" (someone in the book is wishing/planning it) and definitely not all 3 together...

nobora 08-04-2009 11:26 PM

I WANT IT ~!!

bhl88 08-04-2009 11:28 PM

It will appear much later:

Sblegach 08-07-2009 04:02 AM

Lol
Onii-Chan what does Moe mean?
Doesn't Moe mean like: Love, Passion etc.? Correct me if im wrong.

Kufufunofu 08-07-2009 09:51 PM

i want it too :3

bhl88 08-08-2009 08:56 PM

@Sblegach: I think it's "burning passion" for an anime character.

@Kufufunofu: You can wait for it at October 1, 2009. If you can't, you can grab it online...

DevilHunter04 08-08-2009 09:23 PM

I've never seen the Encyclopedia, but I've seen the Gamer's Book. I've been wanting to get that. I flipped through it once it had some pretty cool things in it.

bhl88 08-11-2009 06:49 PM

A painful typo, it's 2009 XD

I think there are other good books for gamers...

Like Amazon.com: Arcade Mania: The Turbo-charged World of Japan's Game Centers (9784770030788): Brian Ashcraft, Jean Snow: Books or Amazon.com: The Ultimate History of Video Games: From Pong to Pokemon--The Story Behind the Craze That Touched Our Lives and Changed the World (0086874536432): Steven L. Kent: Books

Kandierain15 08-11-2009 07:02 PM

*whistles* immpressive. I'd love to get that and wave it in front of my sister. She'd die of envy. >< How much is it online??

Kandierain15 08-11-2009 07:03 PM

lol! I can get it now! just kidding. Nice typo though. *grinns*

bhl88 08-11-2009 07:36 PM

$13.57 for Arcade Mania and Ultimate History of Video Games
$20 for The Otaku Encyclopedia...

Around $50. Expect a little rise in prices if it includes shipping.

Hmmm... should have made this thread to the "Geekiest Books thread" so we can gather the best books on AMG (anime manga games)... and J-pop culture.

Part of me wants this to be non-mainstream so Akiba can go back what it was...

It's $20 if you order it on October.

$31 if you try to order it early in himeyasha. White rabbit offers it for $23 or something like that...

bhl88 08-11-2009 11:33 PM

Bought it for $31... shouldn't have been so impatient to use it...

Deviruu 08-12-2009 09:49 AM

Too bad I don't have enough money for that encyclopedia.

I'd rather have that nice Konata figure, though. :D

bhl88 08-12-2009 05:55 PM

Try eBay... but it's very expensive...

Kufufunofu 08-12-2009 06:02 PM

That's what I'm trying to avoid actually. I don't know why, but I always feel guilty about asking them for money. So when I get a job and I get my money, I'll be happy. :)

That wouldn't be nearly enough! And besides, all the homeless people in my town have the cans sown up tight. I'll let them have the cans. They need it more than I do. :)

bhl88 09-04-2009 11:08 PM

You can make a "garage sale" or "cookie sale". People would like some of your stuff XD

I can't really make cookies. I can make some good hot chocolate(not that water BS). I guess if I had the money, I could get some supplies to do just that. :)

bhl88 09-10-2009 08:51 PM

Or do some chores/errands and ask for money.

Cutting grass for $3 XD
