If I post a book I bought new on eBay, 1000 people might see that ad. If one of them is interested by the title and goes to buy it new, that "lost sale" is just restored.

Hm, couldn't that kind of apply to manga too? Some people read titles online, and then later on, went out and bought them because the scanlation places introduced them to said series to look into. Guess you could say it's "free advertising" in a way.

If you want to compare the numbers of how many times a single volume of manga is resold (I would guess five max) and how many downloads happen when posted online (they proudly showed numbers in the thousands) it is clear which is more damaging. The vast majority of the online readers on not then going out and buying the physical copies, though a small percentage would.

Posting an item for sale is free advertising. Giving the item away in its entirety for free is not.

honestly yukisuke-- Of course we all have bills to pay. I am on a low pension so have to be particular about what I buy after all the essentials are paid for including tax and council tax etc and all the other bills.

small amounts of money saved can add up surely. Better to save than to squander.

In this life we have to learn what is sensible and what is not.

You've had some very good advice and explanations on here so that should tell you the practicalities.

I want to go to Japan but I have to save carefully what little I can to eventually be able to do that.

Who doesn't want to to Japan? I want to take my whole family since we're all kind of fans of Japan. :) YAY Japan!!! LMFAO!!

YukisUke, you don't have to always buy brand new manga. Go on eBay and bid on used manga.

That's good advice. But at the same time, why would I want or even bid on a used manga? I'd rather get a brand new one to call my own. Thanks though. :)

You know, I didn't even think of it that way. That should've been obvious to me. lol

I know people who don't want to go to Japan despite being interested in things the country is most known for. What aspects of Japan are you interested in?

shoot in their own foot

I miss this page.

There were many series that have not been published in Germany or not yet translated or published as far in Japan. The site was always up to date. Some Manga were here never finished and so I could read about how they ended.

If I like a manga (and he's published here), I have bought them later. It's still better than reading from the screen.

So I think it's a shame that the page no longer exist. I think in the end the manga industry shoot in their own foot. Here in Germany the manga/anime boom is already in decline. For example I buy no more series at random (it is just too much trash under them). The series that I have currently collecting I found on the Internet.

Blame the victim. It is a popular response to fighting against piracy and for justice.

Please do not twist my words

I did not say that they themselves are to blame! Please do not twist my words.

The time will show, if strict rules kill the market or not.

When was the beginning of the manga boom in the western culture? At the begining of the internet boom and at this time the internet was not so strictly regulated.

I support artist by buying their works. But I'm not ready to buy a pig in a sack. If I buy a picture in a gallery, I take a look for free before I buy it.

Although I like anime / manga, it is the cause of a bunch of weeaboo's coming to my old community saying "TEACH US AJAPANESE PL0X!!1!".

They didn't even get past the kana (-.-')
