Back on topic; if Amazon.jp sells international, there's really no excuse; you can buy raws direct from Japan and regardless a LOT of the most popular manga is translated and for sale legally on Amazon, so virtually no need for scanlation either.

I might as well pre order Pokemon Black or White and get in September.

MMM does.

That`s what the "I do" bit meant - that he does work in the industry himself.

Just for the sake of providing another site you can buy from (In case you didn't know it), it could be worth looking here too:
オンライン書店ビーケーワン

I can't remember the shipping costs compared to Amazon but if I remember correctly it was cheaper.
Although that may depend on country.
...Come to think of it I think I may have used 船便, which is obviously going to be really cheap, but takes between 1 - 3 months to get to you.

I suppose it all depends on how patient you are.

Well, here is the 海外へのお届け section of the FAQ:
オンライン書店ビーケーワン: ガイド&ヘルプ>ご利用ガイド

So even if Amazon didn't ship internationally, there are still plenty of other sources to get manga, magazines and books of any other kind :)

My answer could have been read two ways.

It is no secret that I have contracted translations for manga publishers and anime distributors. I do not work full time for the anime and manga industry, but I do have friends who do.

However, I don't want any connection with the industry to make my factual assertions about piracy to be construed as any less valid. If anything that makes them more valid, as I know people who have lost jobs due to (in part) of the prevalence of piracy. I am not asking for sympathy of them, but understanding that scanlation sites are stealing and illegal. One Manga was one of the biggest (if not the biggest), and its destruction is hopefully one of many. There was a sense there that due to sheer numbers what they were doing was "OK". I know many users here have fallen under that misguided spell.

Understand that what they did was not OK. It was stopped because it is illegal, damaging and, in the end, taught poor values about the value of manga.

I never knew that Amazon.jp sold manga. I usually only bought music through it. Never thought to look for manga. Doesn't matter much for me, though. It's the more unpopular series I'd want translated and sold that's grasped my interest. Before leaving, even though the series is an old one, I never saw Q.E.D. stateside and I'm still waiting for Gokusen to get a license (it's already ended).

Japanese-language version or the English-language version? I want the game too, but I still haven't made up my mind about whether or not I want to get it or which version I should get if I do decide to. I'm leaning towards getting Black, though, but then I keep hearing that White is supposed to be the better game.

You're being a spoil sport.

Interesting way of putting it, but seems that those who do the scanlations don't do it for profit, so they're not really getting much out of it either.

No one said they were getting a profit.
They are simply reducing the profits of the poor manga artists (it`s NOT a glamorous or high paid job, trust me)... And just handing over their work for free to people who are too selfish to spend their own money on their hobby.

It`s not like manga is a life staple. It`s not as if people would die without it. All they are doing is handing it to the people who are too greedy and too selfish to actually support the very things they enjoy.
