according to wikipedia.org the creator has no intention on ever continuing the show. Even after people made thousands of paper flowers (or was it cranes? read it a few months ago), begging her to continue.

I agree that the Fruits Basket DVD series got me kinda angry by ending so abruptly......

I actually don't want them to continue it in anime form since some plot elements were left out of the anime. I think it would be difficult to come to a successful conclusion because of that.

As far as the ending, I guess they ended it the best way they could with the material they had available from the manga.

Yeah, I really liked the very last episode, It was so dark and different than the rest of the series. Seeing Tohru not be so bubbly and happy for once was a nice change.
