All Things Battle Royale

Anyone a fan of the BR manga series? I am! I've also watched the movie 9 times and am planning to read the novel.

DarknessDescends 09-28-2007 02:59 PM

I can't even count how many times I have watched the movie... It's my favourite! The novel is amazing though, I would recommend it to everyone who liked the movie.
Is the manga anywhere near as good as the movie? If it is, I might check it out!

Rogozhin 09-28-2007 03:05 PM

The manga is extremely explicit in terms of violence and sex......so check it out! :P

offtopic: how come I can't upload custom avatars?

DarknessDescends 09-28-2007 03:21 PM

I don't mind that!

You need to make at least 25 posts, then log out and log in again before you can add your own avatar or upload a picture to your signature.
But before you reach 25 posts, you can edit your avatar and choose one in the gallery, just go to your settings (User CP, upper left corner).

Thanks :)

You don't mind?? Well, it is amusing and even funny....in a gut-wrenchingly disturbing way.

It seems like hentai manga whenever Mitsuko is around X____X (that girl's clothes just keep slipping off her and her body is always in some suggestive pose)

DarknessDescends 09-28-2007 03:34 PM

Haha, Mitsuko? Really? I gotta read that! XD

Eiri 09-28-2007 04:27 PM

I've heard of it but never got around to seeing it or reading the novel...

ILOVEJAPAN 09-28-2007 09:18 PM

I have seen both movies and they are excelent!

I liked the manga a lot more though. I guess Im just a little blood thirsty that way

The novel is next on my "to read" list (and I actualy do have a to read list, thats just how nerdy I am)

DarknessDescends 09-28-2007 09:27 PM

I didn't like the second movie at all. It's just not the same quality...

ivi0nk3y 09-28-2007 11:24 PM

Personally I thought the movies were over-rated.. not bad though.
Too transparent with the morals for kids. You had one moral staring you in the face the entire time in the first one. "Don't be a bad kid or this is what can happen in the future!"
The second one was just an expansion with a bit more story and background.
I dunno how they made it out alive in the end though.. lol. Maybe they turned super saiyan or just teleported outta there, evading the deathly machine gun fire >.>

MMM 09-28-2007 11:31 PM

The manga will be re-released soon in "super size" volumes. 3 volumes crammed into one.

Xlino 11-28-2008 01:47 AM

Battle Royale! Can you kill your own friends?

Who has seen this movie? Or read the manga or novel. What you think about it? I have only seen the movies! Yeah both. I did not like them . Come on is children killling their best friends. WTF! People say is the best movie but idk. they also say the manga is way better. i havent read the manga, but if it involves killing your friends as well ima go psycho!

Kitsuneko 11-28-2008 03:52 AM

Can I kill my friends?!

No.

Not even if they are able to respawn.

yeah u should watch it. they gather a class of 42 students and put them in an island. they attack a necklace with a bomb. if you try to take it off ur neck explodes. out of 42 only 1 can survive the game. if their is more than one survivor in the game after 72 hours all the necklaces explode and no one wins. you could watch it in youtube

Keaton421 11-28-2008 05:04 AM

The movie's pretty awful, but could I kill my friends so that I could survive? Sure. It's instinct. I wouldn't kill my lover or dog or parents, but friends, sure - I hope they'd do the same. Besides, I don't have 42 friends, so the other nobodies would be the easiest to kill.

candioussays 11-28-2008 05:14 AM

well honestly the novel is a million times better than the movie. reading it gives you a sense of realism while watching the movie gives me second hand embarassment and also seems corny at the emotional parts!

as to killing me own friends? no; but i think the book is an unbelievable "what if" sooo...

The whole class isn't friends... of course it would be easy to kill the ones that don't have a realationship with you. sad but true!

Ronin4hire 11-28-2008 05:31 AM

I can't believe people didn't like the movie?

I loved the movie! Especially the lighthouse scene. That scene was classic!

Altaru 11-28-2008 06:34 AM

Well now... I might have to check out this story.

I'm reading a bit about it now, and it sounds... Interestingly disturbing, lol.

Xlino 11-28-2008 06:46 AM

hahah. well what about someone that you really like shooting at you/ and u just wanted to protect them and confess.

watch it.

Uriko 11-28-2008 06:49 AM

i loved the movie.

i first saw it when i was in the same level in school as those kids were & i was in a catholic school back then & i hated everyone.

so yes..yes, i can kill. >:3

KITANAI SORE

So much blood... I personally loved the movie, though.

Finally! Someone with good taste :mtongue:

The violence was never the drawcard for me personally. I heard about the concept before the hype over the violence was around and that alone got me interested.

MissMisa 11-28-2008 09:18 AM

I couldn't kill my best friend Rachel.

But I'd want to survive, so I don't know. I really don't think I would.

If it happened, me and Rachel would probably kill everyone else, then wait until the very last second, and hold hands and jump off the cliff.

What a lovely thought >.<

SHAD0W 11-28-2008 09:45 AM

Kiriyama? I think thats his name, its been ages since ive seen that film, was the best character by far. none of that "shuuuuuya!" "nobuuuuuuuu!" rubbish.

Im suprised at how many japanese dislike that film.. its one of those that worked better when exported elsewhere in my opinion. Still one of my all time faves.

Kiriyaamaaaaaa :D He didn't say one line through the whole thing if I remember rightly.

Kyo from Dir en grey was offered a part in Battle Royale but his management wouldn't let him take it.

No suprises there then..

BR FTW

The second one had a good concept at the beggining but they spoiled it with the whole "war against grownups" crap.

DSX 11-28-2008 11:26 AM

I've seen both movies and I've wikipedia'd the manga. The first movie was a good one, but the second one, I've seen one problem with it: Why kill off one person just because his/her partner died? With the circumstances, it would be lessening your own chances of attack...

And kill my friends for survival? No, I wouldn't do it. I'd only kill them if they tried killing me. In fact, I would be the one to suggest that we stick together until everyone else (who is hostile) is dead, and then we would vote to either:

1. Turn it into a final battle between ourselves. But if I turn out to be the last one standing, I'd probably kill myself because it would be too hard to live with.

2. Wait for the timer to expire, then we die together.

But then again, maybe we could find a student who happens to be skilled in hacking, so we could screw the "bigwigs" over and escape the island.

Tsuzuki 11-28-2008 12:17 PM

It counds on which friend it is then maybe yes x)

Kyoiism 11-28-2008 12:22 PM

Killing a friend is something that I would never do. If I wanted to kill them, then they wouldn't be my friends, now would they? Lol.

kyo_9 11-28-2008 02:12 PM

lol, I will not kill anyone in the first place.. huhu

Tsuyako 11-28-2008 08:00 PM

I've read the novel and watched the first movie....I'd rather kill myself than kill someone else >.>

animelover32 11-28-2008 08:28 PM

The manga is much better than the movie, but both are good. The original book is good too. And I wouldn't want to kill my friends but I would if I had to. They'd do the same.
