I can help you. If you wanna talk to them, you should say first, "Anoh...", which means "Excuse me." And then "Nihongo wa hotondo hanasenaikedo kimitachito hanashigasitai. Yokattara, nihongo sukoshi oshietekuremasenka?" (I can hardly speak Japanese but I wanna talk to you. If you don't mind, could you teach me Japanese a little?) Then they would say, ''OK!!'' That's great, isn't it?

If they are going to college in the US they probably would prefer to speak in English anyway.

Or if you learn those sentences so perfectly, they think you already can speak a little bit japanese and answer with a long sentence, too, that you don't understand. :p
If they live in America, it's important for them to learn English I think.

Ano is not excuse me. To talk to someone you don't know, you say Sumimasen. Otherwise, it's not polite enough.

What is "Tomorrow will be better" in Japanese??
