It may be more painful but the results are way better, and it takes weeks for the hair to grow back out. Irritation? No way. Your skin will get used to it after the first few times to a point where it won't hurt that bad anymore.

I (and most of my friends) started shaving at around age 13 aswell. Its not all that unusual. Maybe guys grow hair at an older age? x)
