to most older ppl like my parents and my old babysitters, scarface was dope, even to me, not just the character but the story it told, and the come up he made, showed ppl a world theyve never seen.....like i said pick which ever. i dont mind
as long as u pick....u came here with a choice and u made one
itd be different if u came here and said both were wack and left.

I dont think I made a statement like that in my posts.

One thing I know is that the Dark Knight is The Joker. He just stole the movie.
Batman is almost relegated to the second role and we forget about Two-face.

He's such... a true villain. When he burn the pile of cash and says "I like gas and dynamite, they are cheap". He's the real and pure psychomaniac villain.
And Ledger did an awesome job with that.

I wouldn't be surprise to see a movie "The Joker : The beginning" in a few years.

No doubt. But the Dark Knight has come and gone. I haven't heard anymore talk about it since it hit DVD.

At least, not around where I am. Scarface has been out for years and years and people still go crazy for it.

I'm only saying I don't see what's so interesting to keep all the hype up all this time. That's just me.

Are you saying it does that because of the amazing acting by Al Pacino, or because the movie glamorizes violence?

I guess its a "like or like not" movie.

But even if you dislike, I guess most of people are in accordance to say that Al Pacino is an awesome actor.

It's so raw and realistic. That is the pure gangster movie.

I also liked American Gangster but to a different level.

But movies are like musics, tastes can't be discussed.

I'm not interested to watch the new Star Trek movie because I'm not into sci-fi
While some people are literally jisming about this.

i think its the violence
i know a lot of dudes who sell drugs and dont live like that at all, and talk about scarface purely cus it was just sum gangsta shit, it has nothing about the acting to them just life he lives as this untouchable druglord who gets women busts his guns and snort coke all day.
then i know ppl who like it for the acting

The visual effects look goods but like I said, I'm not in fantastic and sci-fi

Did you see the movie "300" ? Lots of my friends loved that movie while I despised it to a point I consider its the worst movie ever.

Why ? Simply because I saw the movie "The 300 Spartans" of the 60s, I've read lots of historical books about the battle of thermopylae and that this new hollywood movie just took an historical event and turned it into a ridiculous cartoon.

It's like to take 9/11 and instead of terrorists hijacking planes it's mysterious creatures who summon dragons and then they launch it against 2 twin ivory towers. In my opinion they scrapped an historical event

My point is, people see each movies differently according to their own experiences.

but yea MOST ppl that talk about scarface isnt for al pacino's acting but cuz of how gangsta the movie was. that was the first time i talked to someone that thought the acting was on point and not just cus of the gangsta shit

Hahaha!

But like i said, I had personnal reasons to dislike it.

But I think about the young boy who see this movie and then at school they talk about the spartans and the battle of thermopylae and he raises his hand and say "OH YEAH, THEY WERE FIGHTING AGAINST RHINOS AND SHITZZ!!!!"
Oops!

Compaqmac321 05-09-2009 03:52 AM

haha thats very true
i never thought about it like that at all actually
they made it cool at the expense of the actual story

Oh I see.

But you know, about that manly thing, notice that no girls are interested in movies like Scarface, or barely.

The same goes for the Godfather. I tried to make my gf watch the movie a couple of times and she always fell asleep.

Compaqmac321 05-09-2009 03:57 AM

yup
haha notice i dont think any girls commented on this thread either
scarface is just manly aint it?
300 too
idk bout batman
its manly, but its batman so females saw it

Oh but you know about 300, females went nuts over it because of the half-nude dudes and the UFC-like abs of the actors.

Thats another stupid thing about the movie. They forgot to put their armors on....

Debi 05-09-2009 04:04 AM

In overall, I think about my favorite male actors and it's pretty much like this :

Al Pacino (especially for the godfather, scarface and also the devil advocate)
Denzel Washington (man on fire, training day, malcom x, and some more
Leonardo Dicaprio (the departed, blood diamonds )
What else... maybe Tom Hanks

Oh, I really liked Dustin Hoffman in Rainman too.

Compaqmac321 05-09-2009 04:04 AM

haha yea
haha
i think alot of the abs were sprayed on too

300 isn't based on the actual battle as much as it is based on a very stylistic graphic novel giving a fictionalized account of the battle.

I remember the director of the film saying that the movie was "90 % historically accurate"

I seriously laughed my off.

I'll encourage you to start a discussion of Al's performance(26 years ago) among friends and notice their passion then compare it to a Heath's which was just 2 to 3 years.

We all love Al Pacino, don't get me wrong. But Brian De Palma movies are usually overdone bloody massacres, which is fine if you like that. But he isn't an actor's director.
Like you I defended Scarface to the teeth until one friend said "Watch it again". I took him up on his challenge, and felt he was right.

I wonder how many of the staunch defenders of Al Pacino's acting in the film as powerfully moving and challenging have actually seen it in the last couple years.

You must have been laughing when he went on to say it was more "opera than documentary" and called it a "fantasy film" narrated by a narrator who " who knows how not to wreck a good story with truth."
