What most idiots fail to realise, is that "freedom of speech" doesn't mean you can anything, and not expect the consequences.

We HAVE freedom of speech. Walk down the road, you see the big body builder? You are more than free, to go and tell him that he is a f***ing d**khead. But don't whine when you get a smack in the face.

You can say what you want on these forums. Anything. But the consequence is that you'll be banned/get your post deleted.

There are consequences for everything. Say what you wish, but atleast be a man and live with what you get thrown back.

Hmm, if I think quickly I might say I would have a complaint,
but when it really comes down to it, there isn't much that needs
to be changed that CAN be changed. I think after a while things
get boring for users... it seems there is a decrease in active users
around JF, and that's the only complaint I would have. Other than
that, it's fine.

Because the majority of your posts were trash from the Yakuza thread which was removed.

-Raises hand-

User: -Sigh- What?

So what exactly IS the difference to complain and a bitching session?

Tone of voice, and redundancy.

Tone of voice is nigh impossible on a form like this. Tone is typically determined by the one reading, more so than the one writing. Even if someone is incredibly careful with the words he or she chooses the comment is still open to interpretation due to the nature of how forum posts are read.

I couldn't count the number of times I've been told I'm upset or angry on a forum when I really wasn't.

Anyway this has been going on since I joined the forum. Unless anything has changed the the majority of the problem lies in the moderation staff not being unified. The rest of the problem lies in both members, and moderators over realizing simple words and assuming doom before doom happens. Sure it's for the greater good but it really pisses people off.

Unless there's some restructuring to the rules and staff hierarchy nothing will change.

The difference is whether it is constructive or not. You can complain about something with the desire for it to improve, and with suggestions on how to improve it... Or, you can whine for the sake of whining because you didn`t get your way. There is a big difference.
Discussing things you see as problems, or things you`d like to see changed is great and good for everyone involved. Just saying "It sucks!" does nothing.

Yeah good point ^_^

I guess yesterday I moraly felt like there was no difference,

In other words I felt complaining is useless, to get something done instead of whining about it no matter how "constructive" it is . . .

But that could just be me rambling . . .

Well put. Sure there are times when mods have been known to overstep their mission or flatly abuse their power. But I have rarely seen that on JF. The one mod that comes to mind was reeled in by peers. And whenever a mod tends to come across a bit harsh, its usually after quietly seething in the background for a while and mutliple attempts to gently prod posters in a new direction has failed miserably.

As Salvanas pointed out, there is responsibility that comes with one's own actions. If you push the limits too far, you should expect the limits to come flying back in your face and sting a bit.
