Could you respond to threads in English in future (unless in the Japanese section of the site)? It's just you clearly understand English as you were able to read these comments in order to reply, and many members here don't speak Japanese fluently - I had to use a translation site just to see what you said.

I think you make a very good point,
Japan could easily pay for the repairs and recovery of the damages it incurred by forcing other countries to repay national debt or selling off-shore subsidiary companies or many other ways which would avoid an economic crisis in Japan.
But, as you said, if Japan did that, it would shift the economic crisis to those countries.
The alternative is donations as you implied, but it's no solution. Regardless of who pays for it, natural disasters take their toll on humanity.

Regarding the Haiti vs Japan issues. The total sum required to bring either of the places back to their former glory is like comparing a hotwheels toy car to an F1 prototype model.
And then there's the factor that the dollar given to Haiti may find it's way into a greedy pocket a lot more easily than in Japan.
Those are my two cents.

TO Nippom,

I understand and agree with much of what you are saying. The OP acknowledges in his first post that the title of this thread appears heartless, and I can understand the disappointment you felt in reading such a title in a forum dedicated to Japan at a time when Japan is going through the worst natural disaster in modern history.

The OP says the purpose of the thread is to bring attention to places that need money more than Japan, but my suspicion is that it is to get an emotional reaction from well-meaning posters like yourself.

The US Supreme Court has ruled that freedom of speech cannot be suppressed, even if it is people holding up signs that say "God Hates F*gs" at the funerals of fallen soldiers. Of course JF is not held to the same standards as public property in America, but I think you can see my point.

James I do not think he was saying to force other countries to pay off their national debt or debt to Japan but have Japan issue bonds, raise taxes, and sell off some of its major companys' subsidiaries in other countries, that is how tokyo electric power has come up with some of their compensation money, and that should be the first step taken, however selling off those subsidiaries, could have some bad economic effects for other countries...i think..that is what he was trying to say anyhow, i could be way off

In any case I would say a combination of the two (donations) and the said above should be used, that way the full force of any stresses different parties might recieve by focusing on either option could be spread out.

According to the Korean newspaper article, it is ・・.
The amount of money that Korean people raised funds for Haiti is 9 million dollars.
The Korean Red Cross reserves 6 million dollars of those to their fixed deposit accounts.
The Korean Red Cross should send good will of Korea to Haiti.

What a speech.

Actually if you remember this thread started because you asked me to make a seperate thread as this was originally being discussed in the charity for Japan thread.

But I think that fact is clouded by your vendetta against me.

Quite the contrary. Ronin has decided this is personal, not me. That being said, I dont like new members getting frightened away by thread titles such as this one. Ronin, look how many posts of yours I have responded to in the last month, and you will see how real the "vendetta" I have against you is. I am just sorry to see Nippom turned off by it.
