Places that inspired Hayao Miyazaki
Hello everybody,
I thought it would be cool to take a trip in the future, to the locations which inspired Hayao Miyazaki for some of the scenery in his movies. I've found a couple places already, but if anyone has info on some of the other locations, I'd be happy to know of it, if you wouldn't mind sharing! :) I hope nothing changes too much from its current condition seeing as if I am able to make this journey, it probably won't be for quite some time-and it will require quite a bit of cash, I'm sure. If anyone else is interested in visiting some of these places, here's the list I've made so far... Beautiful! Thanks for that. I remember when I was doing some research for my first trip to Japan, I came across a wooded area with...perhaps some sort of gnarly tree or a strange path...red poles/gates? I can't recall exactly, but I remember reading that it was one place that inspired Miyazaki. It may have been yakushima, but I thought the name may have started with an 'F'.
...If this extremely vague description strikes a chord with anyone, I'd love to hear what you've got on it. Thanks again for the suggestions! |

I don't think so. That's in Kyoto, right? It had just a few of...something, I believe, but it was mostly a kind of creepy, woodsy looking place. If I recall correctly, I think I originally saw it on Japanguide.com while searching for interesting areas. Thanks for the suggestion.

If its the place I think it is (Ihimeken?) The hot springs that inspired Spirited Away is surrounded by modern urban buildings featuring a shopping mall.
Its still a nice place though and is the oldest bathhouse in Japan... just dont go expecting of a big place in the countryside overlooking beautiful scenery. |
