Some would say my wasabi mashed potatoes last night were Japanese, but somehow that seems an incorrect description of a dish made of Irish potatoes, horseradish grwon in New England, and mayonaise.

Calling it "wasabi" something may sound Japanese, but face it mayo and potatoes is about as white-bread as it gets, and I consider horseradish
oh-so-very-British. :)

Hate to use you as an example but I'm hearing about so many things in this thread that I've never heard of in Japan.

Any idea why this is called Japanese Cotton or Cotton Soft?

I checked several recipes for it and its a standard cheesecake that I have had in the U.S. before. Sort of like a light & fluffy version of Lindy's.

Umm.. so have you actually eaten this in Japan?

Even though modern day Japan takes many liberties with what is considered and what has become "Japanese food", and lots of foods here can be pretty creative, I don't think "Japanese-type foods" created abroad can really count as Japanese food.

No, that why I asked and mentioned that I was comparing recipes. I am only going on the descriptions given here. In fact the two people I asked who are from Japan were not familiar with it.
