shinobu0sumomo 03-09-2008 02:05 PM

^-^

i love some of these.

Im buying star shaped egg moulds off ebay so I can have star shaped eggs =]

I guess the onigiri shaped egg was made in one of those quick and easy onigiri shapers?

My friend would die over the pokemon bento.

Ive only just woke up and all I want now is sushi.

Bentos

Me and a friend are trying to find some cheap bento boxes...but we can't seem to find any. We've checked a lot of stores and most websites are pricing them really high. I found a couple on EBay that were pretty cheap but then the shipping was like $13.
So if you have any tips on where we could find some, we would greatly appreciate it. Please and thank you

KikiBunny23 05-08-2008 04:35 AM

I was thinking of getting this one

http://img.inkfrog.com/click_enlarge...t&aid=74013634

which is the one that is $1 but $13 s&h.....what do y'all think??

Nagoyankee 05-08-2008 04:51 AM

That is a nice-looking one. I always recommend a double-decker for a bento box.

The 13-dollor S&H may seem pretty high now. But if you start making bento and stop buying lunches often, you could easily save that much in a couple of weeks. Dontcha think?

KikiBunny23 05-08-2008 05:24 AM

Well, I just got paid today so I'm able to afford it but I found this other site where they were cheaper and we got [there is one for each of us]
2 bento boxes~~red and blue
2 drink things~~red and blue
2 pairs of chopsticks~~dragonfly design and cherry blossom design.

I can try and get a picture if you need but they seem like they will work out...here is the description for each

Boxes: No bento would be complete without a cloth carrying case to keep all your lunching needs together. This bag measures 25x20 cm (9x7 inches), is made of polyester, and features drawstrings to secure all the contents inside. Showcases a "Tenmari" (Windowpane) design colored in pink/[blue] with a white polka-dots.

Drink things: A handy Japanese style pet bottle holder, with insulation to keep your favorite hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold (has the same insulation they use in the pizza delivery bags). Fits the average size single-serving plastic soda bottles and has a drawstring closure. This is the Pink/[blue] and Red/[white] version with white polka-dots and sakura design.

Chopsticks: [dragonfly] For our chopstick-using customers we have some quality chopsticks with matching chopstick holder (hashi-oki). These long decorated chopsticks are 22.5 cm (9") and are made of natural wood. They also are easy to grip so that they don't slip out of your hand when holding food. The top of the chopsticks have a traditional Japanese pattern that is stylish and classy. It comes with a matching chopstick holder that you use to keep the food end of the chopstick elevated when not in use (it is bad manners to place the chopsticks in the food or balance on the lid of a plate or bowl when not in use). An elegant set to use the next time you eat Orental foods! This particular set is navy blue with a dragon fly and wind spiral pattern on the stem of the chopsticks and a cloud-shaped holder.

[sakura blossom] A beautiful set of chopsticks (ohashi in Japanese) decorated in a blue cherry petal pattern that's made out of a fine a natural wood finish. Measuring 22.5 cm (8.5 inches) and also include a matching leaf-shaped chopstick stand to rest your chopsticks on when you're not using it. Perfect for lunches, play, display, or for those Japanese dinner parties you've been planning. A very traditional style item that's perfect for all Japanophiles.

-------------------------------------------
and the total is $20.60 not counting s&h

KikiBunny23 05-08-2008 05:27 AM

[[sorry bout the double post]]

grrrr, just realized our mistake. they are bento caryyin bag things, not bento boxes

edit: we might get these

Deluxe "TENMARI" Bento Box Set -- Red

instead of what we thought we had

NightChilde25 05-08-2008 02:50 PM

I'm not sure I would call these cheap as most of them are at least $24, but they are beautiful bentos all the way from Japan. Some come with carrying case, chopsticks, and a lot of other containers. The shipping is very, very reasonable. I think I paid $2, maybe $3 on shipping last time I ordered from here. Give Welcome to JBOX.com a go. Here's the link for their bentos:

JBOX.com Search : bento boxes

I attended the Cherry Blossom festival at our local botanical garden and found some bentos very cheap. Some asian food stores carry them, too.

LittleFallenAngel 05-08-2008 04:05 PM

Hiroki 05-08-2008 08:28 PM

Why buy Bento boxes? There are just a snack for me, and when something is a snack for me I mean it's cheap and wortheless and besides they are cold. The best way to eat Sushi is when the rice is warm does anyone tried REAL Sushi once? You can tell immediately the difference between packed and unpacked sushi.

But Bento box is also good once a while if you have to hurry or as a lunch in the midday.

Well, me and laura have been wanting to get a bento box for quite a while now and now we have the money so we were searching for some. I don't like sushi all that much since it is mainly raw fish...

and we wanna see what the school would do if we brought them for lunch

Well, what would you put in it? What you're going to use it for might also be a deciding factor in whether you want to spend the money or not.

EveV 05-08-2008 09:42 PM

I bought this cute little box perfect for a bento >> Now I needa stop being lazy and learn how to make it.

Fire_Girl625 07-05-2008 04:04 AM

Bento

I love packing Bento lunches, and I even did a panel for them at Animenext. I have at least 10 bento boxes, and, during thw school year, I pack my lunch almost everyday. Do any of your like Bento? I would also like to see pictures of yours. Some of mine are a bit blurry.

KikiBunny23 07-05-2008 04:07 AM

oooooh, you're so lucky. I'm unable to find bento boxes except on ebay and my mom won't buy them for me because the s/h is usually pretty high.

SatoriOne 07-05-2008 05:38 AM

Ive never packed a bento in my life. I wanst raised in Japan so I never learned. But now that I live here I do eat them from time to time. Even so Im not a fan of bentos. Most of the stuff in there I wont eat. Not to descredit your bento making abilities. They look quite nice from an aesthetic point of view. Its just that Id rather eat three tuna mayo onigiris for a meal. Thats the kind of guy I am.

An hour to an hour and a half...It usualy depends on what I pack and how much stuff I have already made in the fridge. I like to make stir fries and sweet potatoes in large batches, and I keep things like Kim Chee and frozen veggies on hand. i also found these really tastey frozen onigiri, so sometimes I don't even have to make the rice. And occasionaly I'll boil a few eggs and use them through the week.

Asian markets. They turn out pretty good, of course, that might also depend on the brand.

Aoiru 07-06-2008 05:03 PM

I usually uses leftovers and what can be found from kitchen-
Usually fills box with rice and vegetables. Theres rarely much in kitchen (;ェ;)
