Sake anyone? :D

I'm currently intrested in trying out Sake! Yes...I'm underaged but I'm a responsible drinker and I only wanna try too see what its like. What kinds do any of you reccomend for a first timer? I prefer something not too strong with a sweetish flavor too it.

Tyrien 03-25-2008 08:20 PM

Not too strong with a sweetish flavour too it?

You wouldn't really like Sake then. It tastes very bland and bitter at the same time (doesn't make your lips pucker but it's not sweet either). It can taste rather strong, especially if you're more interested in sweet tastes.

One you get used to the taste it's not bad at all. Come to think of it the best way I can word it's taste (at least the brands I had... mind you crap Sake selection at our LCBO) is very mild, less minty buckleys. Quite tart. Definitely an acquired taste.

Nemhy 03-26-2008 12:19 AM

what I ment by not too strong I ment like. just straight up vodka....XD

Tyrien 03-26-2008 12:20 AM

Yea... shoulda specified. Sake does have a very "strong" taste to it. Do you like wine at all?

Hyakushi 03-26-2008 02:36 AM

Sake is ment to be drunk with sweet things like Miso soup, Eeel Udon (not sweet but it has a very stronge ocean flavor) or those green tea sorta candy things they have during tea time. Sake is ment to balance out japanese cooking its really good with some spider sushi too. As for good brands that I'm not sure about all Ive been able to get is smerknof ice and cheap beer =/ oh the splended selections oh hawaii. Oh yea Sake is good with a smooth cig too like 555's (my brand) :D .

anthbes 03-26-2008 02:41 AM

sake is ok, im just not a huge fan of warm booze. Its different thats for sure. Japanese beer is so good though!

I LOVE red and white wines, yes. :D.

Japanese beer? I went too this one sushi play and they had this one beer called Asashi or something of the sort. My mom let me have a few sips, it's taste was intresting (I loved it XD)

If you really like Wine then you'd probably like Sake too.

Nemhy 03-26-2008 03:43 AM

Alright! The next time I go out for sushi with mom (tomorrow night XD) I'll try some. Thankls for all the help! :3 *gives you box of pocky*

Powermad147 03-26-2008 03:44 AM

My mom is kinda...wierd about alcohol. She is BIG on safety, big on school, and big on my all-around happiness, but despite all that she will let me drink anything I want, as long as it's within my house while she is home >.> soooo...I can try Sake whenever I want to :D

That's not weird. That's responsible parenting. She let's you drink in your own home and as long as she's around so you can get to know your own limits with alcohol so when you DO go out and party you don't get completely trashed without realizing because you didn't know how much liquor you can or can't handle.

Yea uh... I know how much it sucks to drink too much without realizing it. That may never of happened if either of my parents would let me get semi-drunk around them at home before I actually started drinking.

UtakataChan 04-09-2008 06:42 PM

Plum sake is the best! I love Himezeken Sake. <3

TalnSG 04-12-2008 08:59 AM

I have found that the sake meant to be served cold instead of heated is more palatable. Though I like wine and scotch, I find both kinds to have a rather strong alcohol taste.

actually sake is better w/ salty foods >.>'''
that's why, traditionally, when you drink outta the wooden cups~
they put a pinch of salt on each corner of teh cup ._.'''

also, a good appetizer when at a sushiya is ikura sashimi w/ a bit of sake ^_^
as the saltiness from teh ikura balances out hte sake :3

Drend 04-14-2008 02:34 AM

Tell me how it goes. I myself am a bit afraid to drink. (not afraid of the drinking part, but afraid of how much of an idiot I'd make of myself if I were to be in public, and how much of an idiot I'd end up being if I did it alone) Knowing me, if I do drink underage, it'd be out of curiosity and not peer pressure like many people I know xD

Out of curiosity, how old would you have to be to get a bottle of Sake in Japan? In other words, what's the minimum age requirement to drink in Japan?

they have alcohol..in vending machines...
usually right around teh corner from your local apaato x]
and they're publicly available x3

though if your talking legally...
not the slightest clue does this one have xD

Drend 04-14-2008 05:25 AM

I think it's 18, if not, it's 21.

Amnell 04-14-2008 05:27 AM

Heh, if it's 18 and I do go to Japan this summer as I'm hoping to, then I'll let you all know what Sake is like ^_^ .

It is 20 years old.

Yes, beer and sake are sold in vending machines (cheap sake) but before you get too excited, soon (next year or so) you will need a special ID to purchase cigarettes and alcohol from vending machines, so foriegners are going to have a harder time getting it from the machines. That being said, I have never seen anyone asked for ID at a grocery store or alcohol vendor, so no big deal there...

all that aside...
alcohol is relatively easy for minors to get their hands on ._.''
isn't it?

Drend 04-14-2008 05:42 AM

Unfortunately, yes. Some idiotic friends of mine seem to go to parties where they do all that, and I overheard that one or two wee stupid enough to drive while intoxicated. Nothing happened, but it's still fairly dangerous to those around you. Some people trust their kids a bit too much and leave their alcohol accessible and they end up regretting it, and some parents just don't care.

this one likes one of the ideas had earlier
where the child can drink~~
but only at home, and within the presence of a parent x]

thouugh yeaah
xD
this one has done it..and will never do it again x.x'''
NEVER drink AND drive >.>"
it's bloody freaking dangerous! =OOO

MissMisa 04-14-2008 05:48 AM

Sake has a really weird taste! It's quite bitter, not like anything I've really tasted before so I couldn't really compare it to anything. It's an aquired taste but I quite like it.

Drend 04-14-2008 05:49 AM

Yep, a responsible parent combined with a respnsible son/daughter is a good combo. I heard driving drunk was like not having those hairs in your ears that keep you balanced xD

In Japan, right? Yes, but because it is so easy to get one's hands on, the "forbidden fruit" appeal isn't as high. It's expensive, and kids don't have a lot of money, so you don't see as many problems with kids drinking. Also, high school students can't drive, so that part of the problem is eliminated, too.

yuujirou 04-14-2008 06:03 AM

actually i was thinking that it's quite easy in america xDDD
but i suppose it's more applicable in japan loool xD

Apparently, the easiest way for a minor to get a hold of alcohol is through Wal-Mart. Yet another reason we should boycott the outsourcing bastards >_< lol.

Hm, do they have Wal-Mart in Japan? I wouldn't think so... but maybe es posible?

They have Costco, but no Wal-Mart...and compared with most of the world, it's relatively hard for minors to get alcohol in US.

MissMisa 04-14-2008 06:19 AM

Well in the UK I could pretty much get some alchohol now if I wanted to. I know a few places that will sell to minors and they don't seem to care. It's fine by me though :D They should stop trying to tackle people selling alcohol and instead educate people about the dangers of drinking etc so they are able to make thier own educated choice. At the end of the day if you have a friend that's 18 you can always get alcohol.

Recently they upped the age you can buy cigs from 16 to 18, and people were like oh what's that going to do, but it's really good because people don't hassle me on a morning to buy them cigs anymore. They used to shout at my a threaten to 'kick my head in' if I didn't buy them cigs, obviously they never did but it's better now.

Anyway bit off topic there, sorry >.<

Yeah because smoking is going to cause you harm anyway. If you have one cig, you'll cause yourself a bit of harm, but if you have one mild drink it probably won't do anything to you.

And London is awesome :D I really like it there.

"Yeah because smoking is going to cause you harm anyway. If you have one cig, you'll cause yourself a bit of harm, but if you have one mild drink it probably won't do anything to you."

Unless you get brave and try to cross the road at the wrong time or any other judgment involved task. Bang! dead or critical in an instant.

Nihonshu ie. Rice wine is a good way to exceed yourself in two very simple steps. 1. buy said Sake (Nihonshu), 2. Drink said Sake (Nihonshu). Doing this in repeated steps over the course of an hour (or in my case several) will lead to great intoxication followed by memory loss and head pains the next morning.
Don't get me wrong, it is really great at the time and it gets better the more you drink. You laugh and cry and have an hysterical time but you pay for it in spades :) Oh yes you do.

It is like a 50/50 split. The more you put down the greater the reward and the reward is..... Fun, good times, laughter vs Pain, embarissment(sp) and remorse.

This is the world of getting smashed on Nihonshu or any other stiff drink. Always drink in moderation and if you can't then be prepared to suffer the consiquences.

Marc.
