Is there a Japanese or Asian market in your area?
The reason I'm asking this is because today I went to the awesome-est slice of Japan there is in New Jersey. I'm talking about Mitsuwa Marketplace. I was like a kid in a candy store. Well I spent most of my time in the candy section, so I kinda was a kid in a candy store. Mitsuwa sells every Japanese food item you can imagine as well as appliances and beauty products. There is also a food court where I enjoyed some delicious shoyu ramen that I regret not finishing. Specialty Japanese stores owned by Mitsuwa surround the market place. Sanseido Bookstore is one of them. They sell Japanese books, magazines, manga, and even DVD rentals of the best Japanese movies and dorama. I can't get over this place! I NEED TO GO AGAIN!!! Oh and in my town there is a small Asian supermarket, but they don't sell much. :D Enough of my rant. what about you guys?

Yeah we have both over here in Newport News, but Ive only been to the Asian market for my sushi supplies. :P

Yeah, we got a Mitsuwa in Arlington Heights. And we have Little Korea by Skokie and Niles has an Asian market. Of, and of course there's China Town...
|
My town has those fake Japanese restaurants with those fake names and food that Japanese people don't even eat...
Like.. HIMIGUZIDOMO STEAKHOUSE |

Yes, we have a large asian population in our town and the neighboring town, so we tend to have asian stores and restaurants in a lot of places.

I would answer... But... As I live in Japan my answer would be pointless. :D
So I`ll answer for where I grew up. There was a Japanese "mall" of sorts (restaurant, grocery store, Japanese preschool) thanks to Honda and Nissan having factories nearby - but it was out of my travel range. Living by a huge university though, there was never any shortage of small Asian markets. |
To answer the question I would say no. But we have a huge Asian food section in our supermarket. And it's enough for me as long it has a good variety of Japanese tea.

I live in grand prairire wher nothing is... but in arlington about 10 minutes away from my house in the Japanese/asain market. One side has asian but the other is completely japanese. even the numbers on the ailes re japanese. I go there all the time. There is a place in the market called Bistro B. It is good and serves all types of asian food but again there is a part of the menu where there is nothing but japanese on it. i of course ordered from that part. Im bout to go there in a couple of minutes!

The best of the Asian markets in the Dallas-Ft Worth are is the Super Hmart in Carrollton at 190 and Denton. There are Japanese markets that arise from time to time, btu most of them don't last long and the one or two that have survived are very small with seriously limited stock. BTW JrockerHime, the Hmart is closer to you than a trek from Decatur to Arlington, anyway. And check out the Mozart Bakery across the parking lot while you are there. They have the best iced green tea in ever! |
He have secrect hidden markets. :D

I think I'm actually going to Mitsuwa this weekend cause my birthday's Sunday... |
I'm lucky to have both...San Francisco-Japantown with its supermarket (the name escapes me) plus in my neck of the woods (East Bay) we got tons of stores like Ranch 99 etc...yea it rocks! XDDDDDD

I live in (the heart of) Texas, and though it's only happened in the past 6-10 years we finally did get an Asian Market (MT Market) and a Japanese market (Asahi). The Japanese market is considerably smaller, and quite a drive away from where I live... the groceries are slim pickins', too... but somethiing is certainly better'n nothing! :rheart:

Where I live, there are two Asian Markets. They are owned by nice Korean couples. Sadly, this means that there is hardly any Japanese stuff to choose from..
