Once my college from Australia loved this fried rice cake saying "I have never eaten such tasty stuff!".
And so do I

I guess not so difficult to find good Japanese snacks in Sydney, but Cairns is another story.

We have a few shops but very small and limited in selection.

I'd rather my son eat these instead of extra salty and oily Australian potato chips.

I had some green beans "Eta mume" (spelling) today at the Sushi train shop.

For dinner I had Agedashi Tofu, Ebi Fry, and special white fish of the day

Your photos are making me hungry, and missing Japan

Cheers - Oz

焼き鳥:やきとり;Yaki-tori; grilled chicken

ねぎま:negima; Chicken and green onion.

Very standard Yakitori

はつ:heart of chicken

I don't really like this....

レバ:れば;liver

ぼんじり;bonjiri:Tail of chicken

This is my recommendation. Only one piece can be taken from one chicken.
Tasty!

あんきも - 05-15-2009, 02:25 PM

アン肝:あんきも;AN-KIMO;アンコウの肝;Liver of an angler who lives deep in the sea.

Boild or steamed and then Served.

It tastes like "foie gras". I like AN-KIMO much better.

"seeds of parsimmon" is not real seeds. they are rice cake coated by soy sauce.

In small package.

Every time I visited Germany, local people loved these packs very much because of its spicy taste.
I also enjoyed eating this..
it is very spicy at times and a good snack when I'm watching movies..

いか - 06-19-2009, 12:20 PM

烏賊:イカ;ika; squid

We eat squid as sashimi (raw) in Japan.

Also ika-no-maruyaki (grilled squid) is tasty with ginger.

Ika-no-Shiokara (fermented Squid) would be hard for foreign people.

Ika-no-kunsei (smoked squid) or ika-kun is my favorite.

Surume or Saki-ika(torn dried squid) is cheap and easy to keep at bottle side.

This is the squid just after dried (surume).
