Hey does anybody know how to read Japanese kanji? - 02-26-2008, 05:18 PM

Konnichiwa minna san! Sashiburi da na! Hey listen, could you guys direct me to a site that tells me how to read Japanese kanji. I'm getting good at kana, but the Kanji always kill me

If I didn't love Japan, I'd be stark raving mad to join a place as cool as this

You should consider watching anime. O_O That's basically how I learn it.. It takes a gazillion years. But it's worth it. ^^

Look in the resources thread--there are a lot of people's links to various sites there, and they should all be labelled as to what they are. Find one for Kanji and you're all set ^_^

What?!
Learning kanji from anime is absolutely impossibile. Maybe you could learn a couple of totally useless characters ("dragon", "spirit", "sword", some random colors and maybe some names), but properly learning enough kanji to read a text in current japanese is really impossibile (and to learn each character means learning its meaning, stoke order, different pronounciations).
Anime and dorama can be used for learning japanese only by people who already reached basic fluency in japanese! The only way to learn this language, moreover the kanji, is on textbooks.

The best thing you can do is enroll in a Japanese course. Kanji takes ages to master (literally) and I don't think you can learn it properly through a website.

everything is relative and contradictory ~

you can teach yourself but it is good to understand the fundamentals of kanji first. so if you can find a good site that instructs you on the radicals, stroke order, etc then it is alright. i have learnt more kanji outside of the classroom than i ever did learn in the classroom while studying in Japan.

Learn it from games... you could learn it real fast playing Visual Novel, I am not lying, haha, why am I telling everyone to play those games. You should play a game called "Clannad" , its content is definitely for all age... so

白鳥は哀しからずや、空の青、うみのあをにも、染まず ただよふ。
美魚さんは白鳥、僕は青、ぼくらは交わらない
