Question たすけってください - 04-03-2008, 08:39 PM

I realize this may look weird outside of any kind of context but can someone please tell me if this sentence is correct, I wonder about the particle と in the second part.

じしょをつかったり、先生ときいたりします。

Should I use を instead or does this work?

Best wishes,
Ida

Were you trying to say work with sensei ( as in study) cause i think you used the wrong verb. But yeh as far as i know と sounds right there but i think the verb used is wrong for what i think your trying to say. 勉強したり might be better. could you write in English what you were trying to say because that could help as im not sure what you want to say in the second sentence.

Thank you!
I wanted to say "ask the teacher" in the second part.
Again, thank you very much!

If you mean to say "I want to ask the teacher":
先生に聞いたいです。

If you mean to say "ask the teacher" as a command or piece of advice [which is what I think you are doing, based on the first part]:
先生に聞いて下さい。
"Please ask the teacher."

thank you!
i'ts this silly homework where we are supposed to write our own examples after this pattern:
大阪で買い物をしたり、韓国料理をたべたりします。
In Osaka, I will do such things as shopping and eating Korean dishes.

so, it's to mention things or activities as examples, not as the only things one will do, with this: activity A たり activity B たりする pattern.

And you answered my question considering the particle..

ありがとございます。

Is it more natural to say:
スウエーデンのひとはせがたかいです。
or
スウエーデンじんはせがたかいです。
as a translation to "Swedes are tall"

ありがとございました。

ok basically for the たり structure the advice people have given hasn't been a lot of help.

you originally said:
じしょをつかったり、先生ときいたりします

first of all, your mistake here as CC mentioned is と it should be に 先生に聞いたりします. the に shows direction of the action.

when using the たり form in this way, it is used to list an in-exhaustive list of actions. What you said, in my mind, should have some context to it. for example you should start off with 授業中で学生は (during class, the student(s).....)

just for fun, show your teacher a slightly different use of たりする form by using this as an example:
田中さんは来たり来なかったりする
Mr. Tanaka doesn't always come.

as for your next question.. スウェーデン人は背が高いです is better. be careful that you use a little ェ and not a big エ
