切る - 12-30-2010, 04:59 AM

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to remove "の電源" and "のスイッチ" in the following sentences?

turn off a computer

switch off the speaker phone

It's more than just possible. In fact, that's how we speak informally on a day-to-day basis.

[Appliance name]

No? Can you elaborate? Or do you actually mean "入れる"?

oh, I get what you meant now. But I don't think I can say ”電気を切る”, right? I remember sensei mentioned that 切る is use for power switch. It is still alittle complex to me.

I am not sure if I am correct here, but I think I should say "ラジオを切る" if I am turning off the power switch by pressing the button directly. And if I am using a remote control to turn off to radio, then my guess is that "ラジオをけす" is what I should say instead. Or am I wrong again?

I have another question in mind. Let say I am going to paste a stamp onto the letter, which sentence is correct?

attach a stamp here

paste a stamp here

I am guessing that both are correct, but I just want to be sure.

I know the latter is correct: “切手を”の検索結果(134 件):英辞郎 on the Web:スペースアルク

There are a few sentences near the top that use the second verb.

Note: 切手 is "postage stamp."

Neither one is correct. Is your teacher a native speaker?

スタンプ are these:

KyleGoetz above gave you the right word for "postage stamp".
