Tokyo Drift

Hey. Has anyone seen The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift? I was wondering if that portrayed the actual life and culture of Tokyo, Japan at all. I'm well aware that much of the movie wasn't even filmed in Japan, but I wanted to know if it was more or less accurate to the way Japanese culture is.

Also, are the roads really painted all cool and futuristic like they come from a Video game in Japan, like it shows in some scenes of Tokyo Drift?

Thank you.

Daisuki

I`ve seen little bits and pieces of it, and NO, it does not portray anything even close to real life and culture in Japan.

Last night I finally watched it! (aphrodite recorded it for me...POORLY I might add...I had to have closed caption on with the tv turned ALL the way up and had to strain to hear the Japanese...*sigh*)
But it was good!! Didn't have much bakground story to it, just kind of "thrown together" past...but the cars were hot...and so were some of the characters!
:rheart:

storyline of the movie is not good

about the potrayal if it was the same in japan, i think they are not close to it....maybe the school scene like the uniforms and stuffs...

joska 02-06-2007 02:14 PM

han .. great guy ..
i love nila .. the brazilian model .. she is sexy ..

i hope to find a friend like han ..

Gerard 02-12-2007 05:34 PM

Totally lame ... they picked a really low american DUDE so the asien dudes don't were looking to little haha ::::::: and thats prob. why BOW WOW got the permission to even play in the movie

amrdarwasha 02-15-2007 04:25 PM

cooooooooool so coool

samokan 02-16-2007 06:53 AM

the only worth watching of this movie is Sung Kang and the Cars ...:mtongue:

totti10it 02-16-2007 12:12 PM

honestly i didn't like it too much the 1st part is the best i think
but the good thing in tokyo drift that it took us to a nice journey to japan
to watch new sights away from usual american sights in most movies

ShibaInu 02-16-2007 10:59 PM

I watched Tokyo Drift...but was not too impressed...cuz' i think it somehow borrowed a lot of things from 'Initial D'...Initial D is much better and more original... :mtongue:

But one thing i liked from Tokyo Drift is that it starred Keiko Kitagawa though she had a lesser role...She is a Japanese idol who played the role of Sailor Mars in the Sailor Moon live action show Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. She has been a model for the Japanese Seventeen magazine since late 2003...:mtongue:

Dude that is exactly what my friends kept saying, that it some how copies Inital D.
And i don't know if i can say that they copied inital d but i can say that tokyo drift was a waste of my time. Twas the worst Fast and the furious serie made. Nothing good of it, arg i was soo aggravated when watching...however the ending where you see Vin Disel was the only high point of the movie. Anticipates his "possible" return :-/...but besides that the movie sucked balls in all forms.

luna2 02-18-2007 04:59 AM

ive seen it was pretti good i lyk the song tho lol
its very catchy lol

ShibaInu 02-18-2007 06:52 AM

Btw, aside from Keiko Kitagawa, there's one more thing i sort of like from the movie...One of the songs that was played there was from an old yet highly respected Japanese punk band. It was a cover song, 'Top of the World' by Shonen Knife...i'm not too sure though if this all-female band is still active playing music in japan...:vsign:

Samael 02-21-2007 02:50 AM

Not even close. XD

I will admit though, I love that movie. Terrible acting, paper thin plot, goofy characters, but if your a car nut (like myself) it's like watching porn. A '67 Mustang with the Nissan RB26DETT for an engine... Rediculous? Yes. Impractical? Very. Blasphemous? Absolutly. Awesome? HELL YES!!!

XtraPaint 03-18-2007 03:17 AM

Go try drifting and tell us if it feels like japanese, DUH!

Tturtle 03-20-2007 03:54 AM

I liked some parts of Tokyo Drift even though most of it was horrible. But on a side note a friend of mine went to Hawaii and he said he felt like he was in Japan and he hated it. He said next time he has to make sure he goes to a different island because all he ate was Japanese food the entire time.

zeraya 03-20-2007 04:40 PM

i watched this movie
its was awesome i want to again and again :D

TURKEY35 03-20-2007 04:46 PM

hi
ı am living turkey
tokyo drift wonderful good film
I like watch film

pandayanyan 03-25-2007 01:42 AM

yeah this movie was good. I didnt like the american (backwoods hick accented) actor and Vin Deisil's appearance in the film was a little cheesy but that is just my opinion. I Really enjoyed how they did tokyo though and the Yakuza are always cool in my book. I laughed so hard when that green box car (the xb looking one) came out with the hair on top ha ha! That was rediculous. Another movie along those lines I enjoyed was Initial D (the movie)

I love cars.....hence i love the movie......anyway, just thought I'd say i love it........and Vin Deisel....I love him too.....

I agree with you on the american actor. I did not think he was a bad actor, but his accent just made him seem very out of place in a movie like this. Bow Wow's Hulk car was one of the funniest parts. I also liked Initial D the movie, it was definatley more realistic racing. Although comparing these to movies is difficult for me since one is very Commercial and goes for special EFX and attractive cars and women, where the other goes for more authenticity and more developed story.

I agree with the comparison of Tokyo drift vs Initial D I love the realism of the racing... where as Tokyo drift was a little flashy. Not a bad thing for either but I see the difference as well.. just thought I would clearify.:mtongue:

Kaicui 05-08-2007 02:41 PM

o man i wish kyoto wuz lyke dat..and trust me, it does not portray at all!!!!...u dont ever see that many foreigners in Tokyo in a regular school unless its a foreign language school

dragonrazor 05-18-2007 05:15 PM

i still have to get this movie....

timo 05-28-2007 11:38 PM

I saw tokyo drift on the cable the other night; the cars were amazing, but waay too many characters speaking perfect english. I don't think it was an accurate portrayal of the subculture, but, hey!, it's a movie, after all.

Oren 05-29-2007 02:57 AM

Tokyo Drift is just another attempt at a pathetic movie to make money. And guess what? All of you who said you watched it are part of that pathetic attempt to make money. I would never spend any amount of money to watch a movie like that. They never leave a good movie alone, if the first one was good they make another one. This movie is just an extention of "The Fast and The Furious" which was actually a good movie. :mtongue:

Hentaro 05-29-2007 05:30 AM

I love Tokyo Drift...

It was awsome to watch in a movie teather...

Oren 05-31-2007 12:45 PM

*puts Tokyo Drift into her DVD player*

The movie starts and my DVD player explodes
Wow, that movie sucked :mtongue:

Firu 05-31-2007 01:21 PM

the movie of initial d - drift racer was much better i thought

Kaicui 05-31-2007 01:43 PM

Yea Jay Chou wuz pretty gud in Inital D In my opinion but he wuz criticized by alot of movie critics

Firu 05-31-2007 01:48 PM

i generally don't read movie reviews,i prefer to just watch them and if i like them i like them lol i really like the way they got most of the cars from the series right.plus the whole thing was very well shot

lpdirufangirl09 06-01-2007 12:07 AM
