I wonder what the average age of a gamers internationally is, and what age range the majority of the population are, then we might be able to see if the price effects it. Kids usually have a lot less money to spend on these things. According to the BBC the average game age is 28, so they should be able to afford a PS3 if they want it.

I still think that it's the price... I think that PS3 is an amazing machine simply because of all the gadgets it has... Gaming wise, there isn't anything that special about it (in the sense that, it offers the same as xbox if not less). So, I think, even if you do have money, you won't neccesarily spend it on a ps3 because of all the gadgets (gadgets get boring after a while)... you'd want a games console for games... I regret buying my ps3. I use it maybe once a month, whereas my xbox is used every weekend because of xbox live... I'll be living with friends soon, so maybe, then, my ps3 will get more use... who knows...

Yeah I agree. I don't use my game consoles for anything other than gaming, so Wii is the best choice for me. I couldn't afford a PS3 anyway and I can't think of any games I want for it, not even one. I already have an Xbox 360 so most of the games I would want are muli-platform, on the PS3 and Xbox 360, so obviously there would be absolutely no point in getting a PS3 because the Xbox and Wii together does everything I want. Though I do still want a PS3 just to say I have them all :p I had the Gamecube, Xbox and PS2. I played the Cube the most, it had awesome games. I rarely played the Xbox, and I played the PS2 quite a bit aswell.

Comparing a wii and a ps3 is like comparing an electric tooth-brush and a standard one. of course everyone buys a standard one too. and it sells better.
Also, xbox 360 is like a PS 2,5 so you can't really compare. Real question is will xbox 720  be better than ps3.

Actually, I am very well educated about video games and my future career will be in game design. I know technically the Wii specs are just a slightly upgraded GameCube. In terms of GAMEPLAY, the Wii is completely new and original. In terms of Xbox and Playstation gameplay, they are just the same. Pretty graphics, similar controller, same old same old. I know what Blu-Ray is for and I know I don't need it. The disks can hold more space than normal CDs so the games can be bigger. Consoles can be technically brilliant, but if the games are just the same as all the others there is no point.

I know they are called multi-platform thank you very much. As a game player whether a console is technically great doesn't matter. The fun you get from playing the game does, in my opinion, as that is the actual POINT in playing games at all. In terms of graphics and all the other pointless technical power sucking, of course Playstation wins. Have you seen the price on the thing?

So what if PS3 is doing better than 360 in Europe? Globally it is doing the worst out of the new gen consoles.

Here are the sales figures of the consoles.

Worldwide sales figures

1. Wii: 24.45 million, as of March 31, 2008[20]
2. Xbox 360: 19 million, as of April 25, 2008[23]
3. PlayStation 3: 13 million, as of April 21, 2008[24][25]

Canada sales figures

Based on figures from the NPD Group.

1. Xbox 360: 736,400, as of February 1, 2008[26]
2. Wii: 689,500, as of February 1, 2008[26]
3. PlayStation 3: 342,400, as of February 1, 2008[26]

Japan sales figures

Based on figures from Famitsu/Enterbrain.

1. Wii: 5,695,579, as of March 30, 2008[27][28]
2. PlayStation 3: 2,009,492, as of March 30, 2008[27][28]
3. Xbox 360: 602,558, as of March 30, 2008[27][28]

US sales figures

Based on figures from the NPD Group.

1. Xbox 360: 9.15 million, as of January 1, 2008[29][30][31]
2. Wii: 7.38 million, as of January 1, 2008[29][30][31]
3. PlayStation 3: 3.25 million, as of January 1, 2008[29][30][31]

Is the playstation ever at the top? Nope. So maybe in Europe it's doing better than Xbox 360, big wow, but the rest of the world isn't buying it.
Before I even start this; please explain innovation! I think you most probably missed the entire mark of my post. PS3, and wii competing, that's just rediculous. Sure wii is doing great, but Ps3 is something entirly different. It is accomplishing things at a whole new level. Wii, and PS3 are targeted at entirly different audience... Don't forget this fact, before you post your next argument.

I don't see why Wii and Ps3 competing is ridicules since they're both gaming consoles, although the Ps3 is technically superior, but it lacks good games to put it to the test and it cost like a kidney, so it's out of reach for the average family. As for the Wii it's just too childish for my taste, although there are some games I would like to try, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is one of them. The Xbox 360 is a good medium, it doesn't cost as much as the Ps3, as good games and it as HD. But between Ps3 and Wii, I would probably go with the Ps3, although it costs like hell and doesn't have many games, it as a more hardcore gamer feeling in it.

girlgamer1984 05-18-2008 06:50 PM

With all of the acessories, 360 costs just as much, if not more than PS3. PS3 is also a whole year younger than 360. Even after two years 360 has failed to deliver heavy hitters. PS3 is brining out MGS and other great games, including Final Fantasy XIII, White Knight choronicles etc. As far as the games are concerned, then 360 is a failure so far imo.

For the final time, I will quote what I've said about 20 times to people on this thread. Please read ALL the posts I make before commenting on what I've said.

This is not something I really care about. And, of course PS3 is going to be technically superior. If Wii cost that ridiculous amount of money then it probably would too.

The price, the innovation, the orginal and quirky nature and the balls to try something new, always goes to Nintendo.

I really don't care about the graphics on a game. I care about how good the game is to play, I believe that is the point in games. It's the same as films, they can have awesome CGI but if they are shit to watch then no-one cares.

The Wii has games which I prefer.

The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, Mario Kart Wii, Trauma Center, Smash Bros - these are all my types of games.

I also think the Wii appeals to more audiences. As a female gamer Nintendo caters for me way better than any other. I hate first person shooters which are the main games on the Xbox.

I could careless for newer nintedo consoles and i still find the old one's as best. But out wii and PS3 i will take the PS3 since it is more a hard hitter compared to the 360
