What's a "couple months back"? He probably got one of the older one's that were still on the shelf. Since around July of 07 MS has been producing better quality systems with the RROD occurrence rate dropping dramatically.

That's because the arcade is a waste of money for consumers and nothing but an attempt to push more console sales to put on paper for Microsoft's PR speeches. The consumer later realizes what a piece of shit he bought and has to either exchange for a Premium/Elite or go buy the 120gb HDD for nearly $200 extra putting the cost over that of a 40GB PS3, 360 Premium, or placing it on par for the cost of the elite.

Or call Microsoft and they fix it for free. Unless you have a modded 360 then in that case you're SOL for first voiding the warranty, and secondly breaking the ToS putting your 360's mac address at risk for being manned from XBL.

How about both? These console wars are really stupid. You don't realize that they're a marketing scheme that you've all been sucked into.

Trust me, if I could afford both I'd have both ;p That's one thing I miss from the college days - I could buy one system and the roommate would buy the other.

That's not true, my friends had the RROD four (4) times now and he's called Microsoft all four times, the first three times they fixed it, now they want him to pay to have it fixed.

How sucky is that, a company that won't even fix their horrible product!!

You missed Halo 3, Microsoft's trademark >.< I don't really play those kind of games that much. It's all down to opinion and personal preference.

A marketing scheme? I don't think that Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo made these 'console wars.' It's everyone else that does, they don't particularly endorse the console wars. They talk about the other consoles sometimes but that's about it. The main rift between the console wars comes from the players, arguing their favourite console is the best. I don't see how a 'console war' would make you buy a console any more than if their wasn't one.

The Wii Is Way Better!

The heating issue was from the GPU, cooling wasn't done properly, the last I checked, they didn't fix the GPU or did any redesign work.

When you say its FIX, does anyone have detail of the fix? I could imagine several ways of fixing this:

1. Improve overall cooling by using an active cooling system or something that does better thermal transfer

2. Change the way how the rendering engine work so that some of the less punishing calls are done through the CPU instead

3. Tune down the GPU speed

Or combination of the above... in anycase, while the XB is a good system, the technology behind it is out dated, I think most of the current games available on the XB is already driving out all its potential. It will be difficult for the XB to keep up with further development/advancement in the gaming world.

Plus, the fact that it uses a MS based OS pisses me off :)

People stopped caring about Halo 3 as soon as CoD4 came out. The game was just one giant Microsoft steaming pile of PR BS.

You have to be kidding me though, right? Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo don't endorse the console wars? Nintendo not so much, they just sit back and ride the cult icon that is the Wii. Sony and Microsoft however are horrible for it.

On of MS's PR team's favourite things to do is take a stab at the competition and enforce the idea of "only on 360". "360 has the highest attach rate" "360 has sold the most here" "360 is the best!". It's not directly mentioning the competition (though they're bad for that too), but it's basically saying "you make the right choice with our console over the other 2".

Sony on the other hand likes to talk and make a lot of claims. Some come, some don't. Their PR has taken a stab at the RROD and brought up the stability of the console. All they do is promote Blu-Ray as a key feature that you can ONLY get with the PS3. Sony too says "Our console is the one you should choose, not the other 2".

Sony and Microsoft LOVE the console wars. They may not have created it but they certainly will do everything possible to keep it around.

What did we say about using SDF (satire site) as a legitimate source? There's been speculation that the next GTA will be only on PS3, this is from Sony's long time relationship with Rockstar. There's no proven truth to it though.

The redesigned the mother board and cooling system, and released an entirely new chipset for the GPU. It went from 95nm to 65nm. Google "360 falcon" and you can read all about the new chipset it got after they issued the 3 year extended warranties from the RROD.
