If you had the choice to live anywhere in Japan, where would you choose and why?
Hi there.
I'd be very grateful if someone could give their thoughts on the following: If you could choose to live anywhere in Japan, where would you choose to live and why? Thanks |
I'm not really sure. The county side seems rather beautiful, but I couldn't name anywhere in particular. If I were visiting, I'd like to go to one of the bigger cities, I guess.
|
Hmm, but where though. According to the book I have it says the Japanese chose Sapporo as their favourite place to live but there was nothing about where foreigners would choose.
|
I would probably want to live in Kamakura, because it is very beautiful there (it's famous for the Bronze Buddha), it is only a short commute to Tokyo and Yokohama, it's not as busy and noisy compared to other cities in Japan, and because the food there is great.

It's because I think the culture in Kyoto is still really traditional. Also you can have the feeling that it is an ancient city, because Kyoto itself is being the imperial capital for 11 centuries now. Also compared to Tokyo, Kyoto is much less crowdy.^^ You can also enjoy the huge variety of shrines, temples, palaces and gardens that the city itself has to offer. ![]() Japan Map ![]() Kyoto-City |

Thanks. Great pictures. Does it ever snow there?

Yes, I think it does snow in Kyoto once in a while, atleast the picture says so!:) |
I think i would choose osaka because i heard there it´s really beautiful, but tokyo is rather interesting too, a big city with some cool places

Because Osaka is not a beautiful city although it is very interesting and exciting city. What differentiates Osaka from Tokyo is its culture not natural beauty. Tokyo is much more organized and cleaner as well. Somebody mentioned Kyoto and I have to say, visiting and living in Kyoto are completely different subjects. Any locals could tell you that Kyoto is hot as hell in Summer and stingy cold in Winter because it's located in a basin. So there you go, visiting is the best way to see it for yourself. I thought San Francisco was a beautiful place before moving here but I was obviously wrong about it big time... So dirty!! |
I need to visit Japan first, but I have had my sights on Tokyo for a long time. Because there is lots to do there, I guess, and I'm a country girl, Tokyo especially sounds exciting for meh
|
sapporo
札幌 さっぽろ |
If choosing (without a visit), I'd have to say someplace close to Sapporo. The main reason is for the weather/climate (it gets hot in Hokkaido, but not as bad as other places there, to my knowledge), and also because of the fact that there aren't as many insects (which creeps me out) that far up north compared to down south. I also like cold weather and I like getting bundled up for winter weather.
|
I like the Kansai area, as it is centrally located, allowing you to take trips east and west. There is a lot to see and do within a relatively short distance.
I'd choose a small city that is fairly close to a bigger city, so that I can visit and shop there when needed, yet still go back to the friendly, less expensive, less crowded smaller town at night. Since I lived in Wakayama-ken for 2 years, it'd be nice to go back there, see what's new and visit my old haunts again, and it meets all the criteria above, so... |
Hokkaido, interesting. Does anyone know if the North Koreans plan to test anymore missiles in that region?
|
lol Did you think they were kind enough to inform you in advance?
|
I agree with Samurai007, but you are going to hear names of cities you aren't familiar with.
I like Amagasaki, but also Nishinomiya, which is a little cleaner. Both are located between Osaka and Kobe, two of my favoirite cities. |
Hm...prolly in Kansai or Kyusyu.
like osaka or wakayama for kansai, orrr Oita, Fukuoka, or Hita for kyusyu. lol. |
Hokkaido Or Kobe

I've never been to anywhere in Japan, so I don't know. Tokyo sounds cool. I'm like Nakishee, I'm a country girl [well...more like a hicktown girl, but still...] and Tokyo sounds super fun with all that cool stuff going on. I also wouldn't mind staying somewhere in the west in the country. Maybe in an ancient temple...that'd be supah cool. B]

Saitama. The obvious reason will be because my uncle and cousin are there. But I think i want somewhere that offer me an environment and atmosphere that is not too "crowded", while not too far from the great city life
|
i would love to live in okinawa coz of the beautiful beaches
|
I`d probably keep living here. Probably just keep living in the same condo too.
If I had to move somewhere different, hmm.... I don`t really know. Probably up in Fukui, because that is where family is. You couldn`t pay me enough to live in Tokyo... Osaka is slightly better, but I`d still never choose it. |
I haven´t seen much of Japan but from what I´ve seen I would choose the city of the woods aka Sendai city........not because the history of Date and his comrades fascinates me but because it is a very modern city with old school flavour and beautifull nature......
|
id like a penthouse in one of the biggest sky scrapers in tokyo so i can take teh babes back for the night

I would live somewhere with few people.
Which sounds funny but I rather just enjoy the natural beauty and traditional ways. Quote:

Fortunately I CAN live anywhere, so I do. I live in Saitama because my old friends are there. It's also close enough to Tokyo yet it's still "countryside" so there's plenty of room to live and it's fun to drive around.

Tokyo!
I'd definitely pick Tokyo!
Not just because it's huge either. I hosted a Japanese Exchange student a few years ago durring my senior year of high school. He's now attending Sophia University in Tokyo. Sophia University happens to be a sister school to the college I'll be graduating from next spring, Penn State University. And from my limited experience of traveling abroad... The bigger the cities you go to, the more English they know :D I studied a bit of Japanese back in high school for 4 years. Since I go to a small satelite campus of Penn State I don't have the opportunity to take Japanese or even test out of foreign language credits. So I've gotten quite rusty, not that I had much knowledge to retain >.> Anyways, Totally Tokyo, Hands Down! |
Tokyo, Nagoya or Osaka. I like big cities.
|
I would actually like to go to some rural towns far away from cities, a place where hardly anyone has even heard the name. Iv seen what the city like but i want to see places with more nature and how people live and interact there.
|
If I had to move away from Hiroshima, it would be Nagasaki. I love it there.

Considering my fiance is from the area and I know the city reasonably well I would definitely pick Hiroshima as the place to live. |
