Tired of America
Male 21
Language: English, Mandarin Degree: Graduated HS dropped out of college with 60 credits Barely know any japanese only know some words here and there from J-drama and anime I was thinking of moving to Japan with no plan at all... If i go there with 10,000usd will that last me a while to find a full time job that will allow me to pay rent and have some money on the side? PS: don't really care what kind of job i get just enough pay to live in japan... is this request easily do-able? |
You`re not going to be able to stay in Japan more than 3 months, regardless of how much money you have, unless you have secured a job for yourself and gone through all the proper visa procedures. There are a countless number of threads on here about just this very thing - look around a bit and gather some facts.

1) no college degree 2) no one hires people with a tourist visa 3) you don't speak Japanese 4) you have no plan at all Why not register to vote, volunteer, become a Big Brother and try and make a difference at home? |
The irony is amazing. Today I was talking to a Japanese who said he was tired of living in Japan, and wished more than anything that he could move to the US or the UK.
Too bad you and he couldn't trade identities for a year or two, I don't doubt that both you and he would feel homesick before long and want to return. It's after 7 pm here now, and I'm looking out my window watching the last of students leaving for home. Yes, it's after 7, and there are still kids at the high school. There are also classes on Saturday and Sunday, how many American students would like to spend as much time in school as Japanese students often do? Don't knock life in America, make the best of it, and be thankful. |
I think it's safe to say that you won't make it in Japan.
However if you want a working holiday you could come here to New Zealand? American's are entitled to such a visa (I'm pretty sure of it though you might want to double check that). All you need is financial support ($NZ6000 which is $US4000) and a ticket. College degrees aren't necessary to get jobs here too. Plus with your ability to speak Mandarin, and New Zealand's recent free trade deal with China and the large Chinese speaking community here you would probably do quite well. |
come to the Uk its great here especially London, japans great but Uk has more cultural similarity and we have great history and heritage. At least you can still speak english in the Uk.

If you like you can come to England and join my filmmaking crew. We're only student filmmakers in college but we're still working on very ambitious projects. Why are you so eager to move to japan:confused: |
Another short answer Japan is great but remember a little old saying.
"The grass is not always greener on the other side" Also, look at MMM's post thats all you need to know. |

I thought 60 credits was equivalant to two years.
