gravure modeling in japan

I want to become a gravure model but the problem is
I have never lived in japan
or even vistied japan
is there anyway I can get into the field with my limited resources?

Hatredcopter 12-12-2008 05:12 AM

Step 1: Be a pretty and attractive person
Step 2: Have someone take pictures of you
Step 3: Send pictures to various modeling/idol agencies in Japan
Step 4: ???
Step 5: Profit!

Having men masturbate themselves to your pictures... always an admirable dream.

gravure model? You Must Be Very Attractive To Think You Have What It Takes. Good Luck

Not sure what you're referring to. It's from South Park, is it not?

Ok I just re-read what you said
and thats a pretty good idea

This is an interesting subject. I considered maybe being a fashion model in Japan since there arent to many blacks over there in that profession (that i know of) Any tips, links or ideas, id really appreciate it. I wanna know how tangible this idea really is.

Everyone has their place in society.

Actually, in Japan, if you're just starting out then the younger the better...

Gravure idols may not be so hard if you are quite good looking. Not as much as people think. But are you of SE Asian decent? You might get away with being a white girl in a magazine like that, but a lot of men who read them prefer to see women/girls who they can visualize on the street more as someone they'd actually meet...

My dream is very unrealistic since I'M BLACK!
but im very skinny/pettie and i noticed most gravure models are
like that....
ehh o well it didnt hurt to ask :p
the chances of me becoming popular in japan are close to zero
ahh well ^_^
maybe if i was white...wait a minute if i was white my chances would be raised to atleast 95%

Being white or black has nothing to do with being a gravure model. You need to be Japanese and have large breasts.

Yep. And if you're a 10-year-old with those qualifications, prepare to be rich.

Hmm...

Anyway, don't mention that Emily thing on these boards please. I'm more acquainted with her than I'd like to be. Also, has Syphilis.

Do you know her in reallife or something?
I know she use to do those intense japanese videos she was very ermmm
plain looking back then
since becoming a model shes alot prettier

MMM 12-14-2008 05:38 AM

99.9% of Gravure Models are Japanese. I am not sure why, as a 17-year-old with the world at your doorstep, you would aspire to what would likely be a flash-in-the-pan career you would probably regret later in life... and the only thing sadder than an aspiring gravure model that finds success is an aspiring gravure model that doesn't.

Let's just say, I was a member of a website where she used to spam her vids, and we took... strong action against her. It wasn't the most otaku friendly community ;)

Her story is an interesting one, but to keep it short, she made herself famous by faking that she could speak Japanese, got syphilis from her ~Japanese~ boyfriend, blamed her problems and Japanophilia on a fake internet disease (aspberger's), and was eventually scouted by a talent agency once they noticed that her legs opened for Japanese men faster than... something that opens really fast :D Watching the drama unfold over the last year or two has been satisfying, to say the least.

And she was actually prettier before

The life of a Gravure model is not a glamorous one.

Everyone has different dreams one of mines is to be a gravure model

/derail'd, sorry!

It's weird back in her old videos I thought she was alot smarter
and not just a typical japanophile but recently I realized thats all she is =/

Keaton421 12-14-2008 05:51 AM

You sound like a nice girl, but that's not the kind of attention you want. You won't be Marilyn Monroe. You'll be an object, a forgotten face on some stuck together pages. I think you'd regret it.

That, to me, doesn't seem like the most well thought-out reason to enter such a specialized form of "modeling"...

Marilyn Monroe's life wasn't nearly as glamorous as people like to think either.

I don't know too much, but being killed by the CIA can't be fun. At least she was respected

Respected, adored, universally loved and very sad and lonely.

If you think about it its really not that bad its not like porn or anything
its just it would be nice to flaunt it while ihave it
it would be cool
to have
all those photobooks and dvds
from when I was younger
and when I'm old and saggy and my body is streched from having babies
I can look back and say
"o look how skinny or pretty I was back then"
its just something to experince its nothing i plan on doing forever

Koir 12-14-2008 06:14 AM

Women who go into that kind of modeling, or any superficially artistic pursuit in the same vein, don't plan on doing it forever either. But when they find themselves in that world, they find it very hard to leave it.

It really depends though.... if my dream does happen(which I highly doubt it will there is like a 1% chance of this happening)
If I have alot of fans and alot of people like me I might stay doing this work as long as I can
but I'm going to school for nursing so if my plan doesnt work out I have something to fall back on

Fans just want you to show more skin and managers just want you to...show more skin and make more money. The pressure to go nude has two routes. Either you break into "mainstream" and never have to go nude (until you are broke and played out) or go from gravure idol to "image videos" to porn flicks. Of course a lot of girls drop out to get married or something else...few of them are household names...but there will always be the otaku.

I remember a few years ago I was in Yokohama and was at a mall and saw a sign that a "mini-concert" would be held an hour or two later. The "concert" was a trio of young girls in matching frilly dresses and they sang two or three songs. The crowd of a hundred-plus was full of men aged 25-45 with very nice Nikon and Canon cameras. At first I thought "Oh, this is a press junket. All these guys are reporters or paparazzi. These girls must be really famous." But then I noticed that no one else in the mall seemed to notice the "concert" and in actuality all the guys were super-fan otaku following the "rise" of these up-and-coming pop-idols.

I never heard of the "idols" again, but I am sure those men enjoyed their pictures. The only difference is gravure idols don't sing.

Your concept of beauty is a bit strange, but... I honestly believe you'll look back on these photobooks and dvds with nothing but shame and regret.

The thing is, it is porn in the wrong hands. There are slews of middle-aged men itching to see an underage girl frolick around in a swimsuit. Read what MMM said, you will probably end up with two choices: go nude, or go home. Please, have some self respect...

(MMM, I've seen a documentary about men who follow those little girl bands around... it's truly heartbreaking)

I completely understand all of your opinions and they are true
maybe I'm just being unrealistic...but honestly even taking nudes wouldnt bother me
I just want to see what it will be like

As for MMM's slants on gravure idols; Ayumi Hamasaki started out as one. It is best to start young, but keep your top on, and you can use it as serious leverage to get attention later on.

As for a black girl making it in Japan... I am not so sure... good luck. (they associate dark skin with poverty in SE Asia. That is slowly dieing out, but still common expectation)...

Yeah the chances of this happening is close to 1% or less
I only know of one black girl who is famous in japan and thats crystal kay but she is not even all black shes half korean

I guess I can't really respect someone in that line of work. If I were a girl I wouldn't like the thought of men masturbating to my pictures, especially if I was underage. What would you tell your husband and children?

I can't remember the name of the documentary, sorry

but in reallife alot of people tell me I'm pretty and alot of people tell me I look ugly its 50/50
I don't feel that I'm attractive which is one of the reasons I want to be a gravure model

Well I know there will be men who masturbate to my pictures but I really don't care to much about that
because I know there are people out there who will really care about me as a model
like me for example I'm not a lesbian or anything and I don't get turned on by girls
but I like looking at gravure pictures/videos because I really am interested in these girls
not just to "fap" to them I like looking at them because they're pretty/cute
I'm sure there will be some people out ther who really do care about me and arent just using me to fap to

Keep telling yourself that. Let me tell you from a guy's point of view... as an [underage] gravure model, no man will buy your magazines because they "care about you". You may mistake "caring" for "creepy stalker", but it's not the same. They'll get off and forget your name.

Sorry if I'm being extreme, but you're what, like 15?
