I want to live in japan but I'm scared!
I'm scared about maving to japan because of the rascism and I don't really like the sexism eitHER!
|
What race are you? Also I heard its mostly just gaijin issues. But even then outsiders are welcomed if they take in the culture and fit in.
|
Well I'm american/hispanic and my family isn't from mexico! darn...and I'm also scared because of the food I don't eat rice or fish...
|
Just thought you wanted to know because everyone thinks the only hispanics come from mexico! I hate that!
|
Why not come visit Japan first to see if you like it? Anyway, you can't just come and live in Japan just because you want to without the proper qualifications. How old are you? I'm guessing you're still very young and shouldn't worry about coming to live in Japan right now.
|
Ohh yeah I'm 12! what do you mean qualifications?
|
And are you in japan now?

If you want to live there and have a job you need a working visa in which case you need to get a bachelors degree so it will be about 10 years b4 you can really think about moving to Japan. |
I'm still in middle school that suckz!!!!!!

Sexism is pretty non-existant out here... I think the 'tales' about sexism in Japan are just stories from 50 years ago which are being circulated by people who have never even visited this country Racism isn't really a problem unless you let it be... sure, people will generally avoid sitting next to you on a train or bus, but that is their loss. Japanese people are, for the most part, EXTREMELY friendly and helpful (so, if they are racist, they hide it very well!). I have yet to encounter ANY form of racism from the younger generation (ie, people under 30) and most of them will speak to you just want to try out their English which might be getting a little rusty since high school. One thing I WILL say is to learn the language... you don't have to be fluent, but get some good stock phrases learnt - it will amaze you how far a little effort on your part will go over here. Perhaps most westeners don't bother to learn, but whenever I talk to people in Japanese they seem really appreciative that I have made the effort |
Wahh thats not fair! I've been trying to learn jappanesse for a long time! i want to go there but I guess I'm to young!
|
For now my greatest dream is to learn jappanesse if I do I'll be trilingual!
|
Even though it'll be a long long time before you'd be able to move to Japan, you can always start preparing early to make it easier. When you get to high school you have to make sure and get good grades so you can go to a good university - one that has Japanese language classes, preferably. If your family goes on vacation, try to convince them to go to Japan :D. That way you can see what it's really like.
|
Well, as someone said before me, just travel there first to see how you like it.:vsign:
|
It seems like Japanese people are more racist toward Koreans and Chinese than anybody.
But then again it's surely not that bad. Every country has a bit of nationalism or racism or whatever. Same with sexism. People who tell tales of Japan being really racist or sexist just see what they want to see. |

I'm sorry to say, Japan is nothing like the anime. In fact most of it is actually pretty damn dull and completely ordinary. People are not smarter, more creative, or more exciting here than any other country I've been to. |
So what are you doing on these forums?
|
You're not Black. Japan would accept you. Japanese girls like hispanics now, just not Blacks. I am Black, and I go through daily harassment from latrinos bragging about how they get Japanese girls easily. They really are arrogant and rude. Too bad they get respect when I don't, even though I am nice.
|
can i just say everyone has a dream yeah?
n mayb "forgotenmemory"s dream is to move to japan, its very very nice for people to crush your dreams. so why are people being mean? look i know your young. it is true you shoulnt be worrying about moveing to japan at your age. but i went through a phase with moveing to america when i was your age. just visit japan n see how it is. generally people are really nice, but some of tthem are really big on respect, like people have said on here, if you just follow their culture you should be accepted fine ^_^ |
Oh man..........just relax!
I heard that some japanese are not very friendly with foreigners but this is the same as in every other country too. I'm used to it because in Germany racism is still a big problem...some stupid skinheads or Nazis think that just white people sould live here but this is of course bull shit... You shouldn't listen...and they're just strong when they're in a group...a single person can't do anything... In Japan there are people too which like it to talk with foreigners...the problem is most of the time just to speak english...but if you know japanese everyone will help you I'm sure.. I was afraid too because of the food. I hate every kind of fish and I don't eat animals like fish, pig, cow or chicken...I'm a vegetarian....a real vegetarian...but there are enough supermarkets where you can buy meatless and riceless food!! So relax and when you're older you will enjoy visiting Japan! ;) Just visit Japan for the first time and you'll see! |

I think it's great that people share their actual experiences of living in Japan rather than just rave about how wonderful it is... despite the fact they've never been there. |
Actual experiences? I didnt see any actual experiences being shared. I only saw someone calling Japan dull and boring...
How interesting that you enjoy reading posts that describe things as dull and boring, how did that fascination for boring and dull things come to life? |
If I was interested in watching a film and some people said it was great and other people said it was boring I would value each comment equally.
|
When I hear negative comments about a certain subject, I tend to lose motivation to find out more about the subject. I expect (perhaps wrongly) that other people are influenced similarly.. hence I disapprove of negative comments. I somehow feel that they dont really contribute anything.
If I was interested in watching a film and some people said it was great and other people said it was boring I would not think much of both comments unless they would motivate their comments. :D |

If people want actual experiences they should come out here and see Japan for themselves rather than worshipping it from what they see in the media (anime, Hard Gay, Iron Chef, etc). Spend some time out here in REAL Japan and you'll realize it's life... no more and no less. We go to the supermarket, we get in traffic jams, we sit around on Friday nights wondering what the hell we're going to do. Instead of corn fields, it's rice paddies. Instead of football, it's baseball. Instead of wishing they were in Japan because of the media they see, they wish they were in America because of the media they see. I'm on Japan Forum because unlike most people on this site, I actually live here. If you're "different" in America (or where ever you live), you're going to be "different" here. |
Dude, I hope that you do not go to japan. I'm tired of seeing Japanese girls with latrinos.
|
ViolentAJ-
Look dude, you may think you're getting some sort of thrilling rise out of people with your racist comments but you're really not impressing anyone here. We've all heard them before and you're not really accomplishing anything here. I suggest you shuffle off to somewhere you can make friends and influence people. |
