If you invade a country head on you'll end up killing 'innocent' people. If they refuse to surrender then what happens when even the women and children start pointing guns at you?
Even if they don't, the numbers killed would be massive, when America took Okinawa, there were 12,500 American casualties and 150,000 Japanese civilians killed. That's more than at Hiroshima.
