I knew it was known in some circles, but it appears it's much more well known than I was aware of. My grandfather served in the Navy, and later in the State Department. I don't know all the details of his work with the State Department... some he couldn't talk about. I know he and my mother/rest of family traveled along on diplomatic passports in places like Egypt, Germany, Beirut (Lebanon), England, and some other places I can't quite pick off the top of my head. My mother and her family had to be evacuated from Beirut because of a conflict, I recall her telling me that much as well. My grandfather, if I remember correctly, was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. I also recall that my grandmother's funeral attracted people from all over the world (primarily Europe, the U.S. (of course), and the middle east). Other than that, I don't really know all that much about it.
