Children study about Ainu in every aspect of their curriculum when they go to Junior High School, even in their English classes. Fair enough, the lessons set-out in the text books are absolutely s***e, but still they do get a flavour of the Ainu culture with regards to food, language and lifestyle.
I had never heard of Ainu until I worked in a JHS out there.
