This is a little off topic but why would anyone want to learn spanish? for the cultural value? what for? seriously...
Well, if you go by numbers alone, once you move south of L.A. or Miami, you'll get by with Spanish till Mexican border, south of that one it's spanish speaking till you reach Fireland - with the exception of Brazil. The ancient history is still being pieced together, the history from the conquistadores onwards is well known and a sad one. As for today's culture... check youtube for 'reggaeton' , 'urbano' , there's more to it than just Dayddy Yankee's Gasolina ( and he isn't singing about petrol
)...
