In short, this is a bad idea.

I am assuming you are talking about the Christian God, and Japan is not a Christian culture, so when you are talking about 神様 it doesn't necessarily mean "God". You could read that tattoo as also meaning "I believe in pagan gods"

I have seen references to the Christian God also written as 主.
