If you want to find a job and pursue a career in Japan, you can't beat the IT field. With 2 - 3 years of experience and JLPT 2, you can find a ton of openings.
I hope the JET program survives, as I was planning on going on it after University, but I'm kind of glad I chose to study IT. I hope this can gain me a route into Japan, should JET be scrapped

No one should plan on going on the JET program. That's like planning on winning the lottery.

A four year college or university degree is all that is needed. (In the US we say a B A or a B S.) The focus of the degree doesn't matter.

Anything as long as it's a Bachelors degree in an English-speaking university.

Huh?

At any rate, I think a lot of getting into JET requires attention to detail. A mistake on your application will probably knock you off at the first part of the hiring process. I've seen people fail the interview who were from very good schools and who had very good grades... during the interview you have to be 100% on your game. If you look too much like an introvert then I think they would be likely to not give you the job. I think you have to be very friendly and talkative, but at the same time show restraint.
