I am in Shiz city and it wasn't shit only shook at like a 4 I think. Maybe a different story in Fujinomiya (6.0). The nuclear plant I know of is in Omaezaki and is pretty far from that epicenter.

I can tell you if the ASN upgraded the accident to 6 out of 7, a level between "Three Mile Island" and "Tchernobyl" then this is serious news. I don't mean to fearmonger, simply put the facts we get here on french media :

For those of you who would not be aware, this is an agency which usually tends to minimize anything wrong related to the nuclear industry.

I just read of the earthquake, luckily not Tsunami alert this time. So just as I Expected the media blown up the news only for the share. Your japanese have the fortune that your Nation it's incredible strong and it have an excellent organization. Here in Italy the organization is really really really bad and the Govern... well, I think that everybody knows about our "great" italian President. I wish you a big good luck with this situation, hoping that it will end soon.

From your link - "We have strong suspicions that the doses received by workers on site are toxic (...) even heroic. We are concerned for the health of workers and their ability to secure work in the long term," said Agnes Buzyn .

They are REAL HEROES.

I pray to god that Fuji is not affected, it will be really bad if Fuji decide to act up now...

We shook about a 3 here.

With inland earthquakes, there shouldn`t be much worry about the reactors. They`re designed to withstand huge earthquakes, and the ones in Fukushima didn`t have any problems handling the shaking... It was the tsunami that brought all their problems. If the earthquake is inland, even if it`s quite big, the risk for a tsunami is much lower.

I`m more worried now that the Shizuoka quakes might continue and put pressure on the plate that is ripe and ready to trigger a huge Tokai earthquake.

Man, this is really worrisome. My In-Laws live a stones throw from Mt. Fuji.

Has anyone heard about any reported activity at Mt. Fuji itself?

Not at this time, but I`m sure they`re watching it pretty closely as it seems that the last huge earthquake in that area did indeed trigger an eruption.

for those wondering about the nuclear event scale:

International Nuclear Event Scale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

a 6 out of 7 is a serious accident, with a significant release of radioactive material.
This means it's worse than the Three Mile Incident. that was a 5.
Chernobyl is the only 7.

as for the new quake... 6.1, the first quake due west of Tokyo. I'm still watching the USGS site.

I was thinking about Fuji before the nuclear reactors started melting...I really didn't want to say it, though... Japan needs to get better!

~hugs~ all around.
